This is a beautifully restored and customised Beverley Cosmic 21 snare. Made in England in the 70s, these were considered to be a genuine rival to the Ludwig Supraphonic. Like the Ludwig, it features a one-piece spun aluminium shell - no welds, no seams, no joins - triple-flange hoops, 10-lug tuning and a conventional snare strainer. When it came to me the shell had suffered a great deal of peeling to the chrome - common when trying to plate to alloys and often seen on these drums. I wanted to give it a completely new look, and the shell was abraded, given two primer and three top coats before lacquering. The result is the classy satin black hammered finish that I hope the pictures have done justice to. Looks absolutely great alongside any kit. The lugs are all the original and beautiful Beverley design with the correct inserts and shell fixings - see the inside shell pic, which also shows the original "Made in England" sticker. I have put in new modern rods all round, so a standard tuning key will work - much more convenient than finding a key for the old slotted head rods. The lugs have been polished and are in generally very good condition, although there is some of the usual bubbling, and one or two show some scuffing. The pictures give a pretty good view. There are no additional holes - the one shown is the original vent, and the Beverley script badge is original. The triple flange hoops are in good condition with minimal pitting. An internal damper is fitted - this one is a period Premier one from the 70s, and will be very similar to the original. The snare strainer and butt end are brand new Premier items of exactly the same type as originally fitted (although Beverley was run as a separate business and brand, the drums were actually made in the Premier factory at Leicester and shared a number of common parts). I fitted new Pearl wires, and new heads - Remo Ambassador batter and an Evans Hazy 300 snare. Only usage has been a couple of light sessions. So there you have it - a piece of British drumming history and a classy drum in its own right - given a thorough refurbishment using lots of new parts and a unique finish. The result is an excellent snare drum that is ready to gig out of the box. The starting price is a realistic reflection of the time and money spent to create it. Please feel free to ask questions, and if you win the drum and are not satisfied I'll refund your money - I only want satisfied buyers.
