Might strike you as expensive for what it is. However, if gun care specialists Birchwood Casey put their name on it you might expect it to be a bit special and of the highest quality, and that's exactly what it is. Rub some on a freshly finished steel item and leave it overnight. The surface is not sticky or greasy, but will repel water like a duck's back, to coin a phrase. I gave it a test! Also left some coated carbon steel in the garden covered in it, and so far they show no surface corrosion. The weather has not been inclement, admittedly. But we would expect to re-treat steel according to the environment it is subjected to. The stuff has an incredibly low viscosity at room temperature, which is great when we want it to search and penetrate mechanism. Think of Barricade as a very high quality and performance oil. It no doubt has many applications besides firearms care and protection, although it is a bit pricey to squirt about liberally when something like WD40 is probably more sensible. The scent is not unpleasant. I can best describe it as 'like a new gun'. Suggesting that the likes of Baretta & Browning use a similar formula? That's just a guess, mind you. Whatever, in my experience the stuff really works.Read full review
