Premium Blackface mod kits for your silverface Fender amplifier

You’ve all heard the term “blackfacing”.  To put it simply, “blackfacing” means that you convert the circuit of a silverface Fender amp back to blackface specs.  These blackface specs were the designs used by Fender from 1963 – 1967, and are widely considered to be the best sounding amps ever made.  The term “blackface” comes from the amp’s black control panel with white lettering.

A few years after CBS bought Fender in the 60’s, they started changing the circuits in an attempt to give them more clean headroom and make the amps cheaper to produce.  Unfortunately, these changes were not for the better.

Blackfacing is a relatively simple procedure, requiring the removal of some parts, the replacement of others, and the relocation of a few wires.  This can be done by any competent tech or do-it-yourselfer.  These changes make a HUGE difference in the tone and performance of your amp.  This is a recommended procedure on most silverface Fenders.

You will truly be amazed at how much better your silverface Fender will sound after completing the blackface mod.  It will have more depth, touch sensitivity, & a full, rich sound loaded with beautiful harmonic overtones.

This blackface kit is designed for your silverface Bassman 50 amp.

(Not compatible with the 70W & 135W models)

The Bassman heads went through many circuit changes over the years, from the brown & blonde 6G6 circuits, blackface AA864, AA165 & AB165 circuits to the silverface Bassman 50 & 100 amps, each with very different preamp circuits & output circuits.  While there is no standard blackface bassman circuit, this conversion kit modifies your silverface Bassman 50 to the revered "Holy Grail" blackface AA864 Bassman output section.

This kit includes all of the electrical components, diagrams & written directions you need to perform a full blackface conversion on your silverface Fender amplifier.  (Tools, solder & wire NOT included).

Complete, detailed, easy to follow instructions with “before & after” diagrams are included.

Only the highest quality Sprague Atom electrolytic capacitors are included in this kit.

Only the highest quality carbon comp resistors are used in the signal path.  Flameproof 1W metal oxide resistors are used for the high voltage applications in the power supply & bias supply.    Instructions for reading color codes on resistors included.

BONUS: Certain resistors, vital to optimum performance of the driver & phase inverter have been measured & matched by tolerance percentage!! You are getting a matched & balanced set for your output section!  This ensures maximum efficiency, optimum performance, minimum phase cancellation and the best possible tone from your Fender!

The tolerance normally associated with resistors makes it almost impossible to find matched sets unless you have hundreds & hundreds to choose from, & the time to sort through them all.

I have taken readings on literally thousands of resistors and spent countless hours putting these matched sets together.  Why?  Because matched sets sound MUCH better than unmatched!  Most kits on the market today do not take the time to provide this important service.

As a bonus, the necessary resistors & detailed instructions on how to properly set the bias of your newly blackfaced amp (using only a multimeter & calculator) are included.

Faceplate NOT included.

The above photos represent a standard blackface conversion kit.  Actual parts may vary based on amplifier model.

CHECK MY FEEDBACK!!!   These are the best blackface mod kits available on the market today.  Instructions & diagrams are very thorough.  Only the highest quality parts are used.  You will be amazed with the results!!

Optimize your power tube performance with matched resistor sets

The resistors on the power tubes of vintage Fender amps take some serious abuse.  They handle a lot of juice and are subject to physical abuse from the heat of the power tubes.  This causes them to burn & drift over time.

It is important to match the resistors on your power tubes if you want the best tone possible.   This is especially important if you shell out the big bucks for matched sets of power tubes or vintage NOS matched sets.  What’s the point of matched tubes if they are all being fed different operating voltages?

Power tube resistor upgrade includes one matched set of resistors for the output tubes of your vintage Fender amplifier.  The 1K5 1/2w are high quality carbon comps.  The 470W screen resistors are flameproof 1W metal oxide for stability and reliability.  Please see my other auctions for all available upgrade kits.

Greatly enhance your tone with capacitor upgrade kits

If you are looking to get the most out of your silverface Fender, it’s a good idea to upgrade the coupling caps throughout the circuit.  Doing this will greatly enhance the clarity, richness & sustain of your amp.  Capacitor upgrade kits are available.  Please specify Sprague Orange Drop, Mallory 150 series, or a combination of both (Mallory preamp, Sprague output – a very tasty combo)!!  These kits also include silver mica replacements for the ceramic disc caps in the signal path.   Please see my other auctions for all available upgrade kits.

*International buyers are welcome.*  If you buy more than one upgrade kit & you live overseas, please wait for me to send you an invoice with reduced shipping charges.
