Book - An Introduction to Invalid Carriages
This new A5-style softback book with English text was published in 2006. The book looks at the history and development of Invalid Carriages in the UK. The book has 28 pages with 26 b/w photos. Many of these vehicles were a familiar sight on our roads, and although the DHSS intended that they would all be withdrawn from service by 1981, the final Model 70 was not withdrawn until 2004.
The book firstly gives a 2 page summary of the development of the industry. The rest of the book devotes 1 page to each model, with a photo and description of each vehicle. The following models are included - hand-propelled tricycles, Carter (J & A) Ltd, G.H.Dingwall Ltd, R.A.Harding (Bath) Ltd, Trilox, Petrol Argson, Argson Electric, Nelco Solocar, Larmar car, Invacar Ltd 1946-52, AC All Weather tricycle, Fitt Continental, Invacar Mk 8 & 8A, Vernon Invalid car, Harper Mark 1 & 4, Harper Mk 6, Invacar Mk 10, AC Acedes, Barrett Minor & Midget, Tippen Delta, Invacar Mk 12, AC Acedes Mk 14 & 15, Model 70 with Steyr Puch engine. There is also a page identifying the Ministry of Health numbering system.
Although this is a small book, it comprehensively covers an unusual class of vehicle. I am sure an enthusiast would find this book a useful addition to their collection.
