I bought this lens on behalf of my Son Sean,he has not stopped telling me what fantastic piece of kit it is, he paid £188 for it with postage & far as he is concerned it can do no wrong,& he thinks he has had the bargain of the year.
The clarity of the optics on the APO version is very good, especially considering that even at 400mm the aperature is still f/5.6. One of the good things is that on the Canon 350D this equates to 640mm (clipped 35mm) and is still sharp, handheld, if steadied. Just crank the speed, and /or ISO up. Some of the 'photos I have managed with this lens are a lot better than I have attained with many others. The biggest drawback I have found with this lens, as with all lenses of this "length" is the weight. The reason I decided to buy mine was the balance between focal length / optics 'V' weight, as compared to say a 170-500mm. To me this lens represents good value for money, as this is now disappearing in favour of the 120-400mm, and some very good examples are appearing on E-Bay. Tompen50
