VERY GOOD CONDITION
This sale is for a vintage hardback edition containing TWO books entitled “The Mystery of Edwin Drood,” and “Hard Times,” by Charles Dickens, with a tissue-guarded COLOUR frontispiece and illustrations by C. A. Shepperson, A.R.W.S., and W. S. Stacey.
It was published by The Gresham Publishing Company Limited, of London, and is one of the undated, circa 1912, volumes in the “Standard Edition” of the works of Charles Dickens.
The Mystery of Edwin Drood is the final novel by Charles Dickens. The novel was unfinished at the time of Dickens' death and his ending for it remains unknown.
Hard Times focuses on social and economic issues in the Victorian era, and is unusual in that it is not set in London, but is set in “Coketown” in the industrial north, generally regarded to be the cotton mills of Preston in Lancashire.
Charles John Huffam Dickens (1812-1870), was arguably the best English novelist of the Victorian era, as well as being a vigorous social campaigner and was one of the greatest ever writers. He was most famous for his storytelling and numerous memorable characters, and achieved massive worldwide popularity in his lifetime.
The book measures 8.1 inches x 5.75 inches x 1.5 inches and has 501 pages + illustrations.
The book is in good neat condition for its age, with minor wear and is a little faded to the spine of the original cloth hardback cover, with a little light foxing near the covers/rims. There are NO inscriptions/book-plates and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book. The binding is very good with no loose or missing pages. There is no dust-jacket.
A wonderful illustrated vintage edition.
