Hello Retro Mountain Bike fans. Here we have the basis of a great restoration project!
This is a Cannondale Aluminium 3.0 frame, with a Shimano M900 XTR headset, a Rockshox Mag 20 fork and a Control Tech Control Stem. I think they date from 1992.
I bought this as a complete bike a few years ago as I wanted to use the parts to restore my 1993 KHS Montana Comp. This frame / fork have been sitting in my shed ever since so I need to get it shifted!
The frame is a really nice example of an early 1990s Cannondale with the cantilevered rear drop outs. It has unfortunately lived up to it's "Crack'n'Fail" nick name at some point as the left hand seatstay has been re-welded just above the brake post. (See pics). Other than that it is in good condition. There's some rust on the cantilever brake posts, but a couple of minutes with some sandpaper will sort that.
The fork is a Rockshox Mag 20. It is in pretty good condition, with the adjusters still moving etc. There's some flaking of the paint on the lowers and some rust on the cantilever brake posts but its not bad for a 20 year old fork! I undid the top caps and had a look inside - it was pretty ugly! The oil is contaminated so you'll need to give the forks a thorough service if this machine is to be ridden. The screw heads which hold these top caps in place are chewed up a bit, but they're still functional if you're careful and have a couple of different sized screwdrivers.
The Shimano M900 XTR threaded headset is smooth as butter. They don't make them like this any more! The XTR logos are just about still visible but they have suffered from cable rub.
The Control Tech Control Stem Is zero rise and 140mm long for that early 90s long low stretched out position.
I am selling these parts altogether as the frame uses the now extinct Evolution 1.25inch headset pioneered by Gary Fisher. Parts in this size ar pretty difficult to find nowadays, so I thought it would be easiest to sell everything together.
Frame geometry is as follows:
Seat Tube:20in Centre to centre (22in centre to top)
Seat Post: 27.2mm
BB Shell: 68mm
