Item specifics

Year: 1995 Transmission: Automatic
Mileage: 460,000 Fuel: Diesel
Engine Size: 2,664 Previous Owners: 2
MOT Expiry: 12/2013
Up for sale is a old Fairway style London Taxi. 1995, a bit of MoT left and no tax.

Bodywork is in excellent condition with just a few very minor bubbles on one arch and a wing seam, tinty bits of surface rust on a cuple of the doors and on the corners. Elsewhere, and especially where these taxis rot (in the boot, at the bonnet hinge, floors, sills) there is nothing. I went round London/Berkshire earlier in the year looking for one of these for a taxi-driving mate and this is better than any of the ones that we were shown at £1500+

Still has the disabled ramps present too.

So why Spares or Repairs?

Well the engine fires up, runs and sounds fine, but oil is coming from somewhere at the back. It could be a breather or could be something worse. I'm told these Nissan engines are unburstable, but this one definitely has a problem. Could be an easy fix, may be not. But I'm told that good second-hand units can be got for £350 anyway so, even if the worst is true the Taxi could be saveable.

The gearbox also could do with a service. It has plenty of fluid but thatis not a cherry red colour (more of a dirty red), which possible explains why the gear change is a bit sluggish until it's warmed up.

Other than that the taxi seems fine, apart from the passenger door which is very stiff to open, the fold down seats in the back missing and and the usual headlining sagging etc. Most of the rest of the interior is very presentable.

I'm starting the bidding at what I reckon the scrap weigh-in would be and with no reserve. With such an excellent body though it must be worth someone doing up, it's just not the project for me. I have too much else on the go.

Viewing can be done at Whaddon Garage in Gloucester GL40UG at any time during working hours as that is where it is currently stored.

Any questions, please ask via Ebay.

Hello all watchers. Just to make it clear to anyone thinking of bidding on this. I really would not recommend that you buy this thinking it will drive a long way home. I'm selling it as spares or repairs and started the auction at scrap money because there is a fair chance the engine is not too well and the gearbox definitely needs a flush, filter and refill. It also has no tax on it, so unless you can tax it I wouldn't risk it... being broken down by the side of the road and trying to explain to the cops why it has no tax wouldn't be my idea of fun.

Also please bear in mind that the taxi weighs somewhere over 2-tonne so would need a big transporter to collect. A 3.5t Transit style waggon is not going to carry it, nor is a car and trailer recommended... I tried bringing a TX2 back from Liverpool once on a trailer being towed by a Jeep Cherokee... at 40mph the lot was weaving all over the road as it was way too heavy at the back... I really thought I was going to die that day... either throough by being tank-slapped off the motorway, or by boredom when I had to reroute on to the A-roads, which took about 8 hours!

Having said that I still think it's at bargain money :-)
