I love this carry on film, firstly I suppose as i am a Nurse myself, then because of the humour as a carry on film .A lot of the humour is true to life, as student nurses getting the route of medication muddled up, and patients getting confused at night; not quite as severe as portrayed in the film.Lesley Phillips is great. For me it is lovely to look back and remember how nursing used to be, not that I was a nurse in the fifties ! I never get fed up with watching it.
Very early Carry On comedy - the second in the series, in fact - was made in 1959 and reflects some aspects of the 50s beautifully! Hospital patients smoke - in bed, at that! - and the whole hospital trembles at the thought of the Matron, who runs the place with a rod of iron. All the staff know their place except the one who acts as a bookies' runner! Kenneth Williams falls in love - with a girl, too. Some of the great characters (Sid James and Babs Windsor, for example) are not yet on board but having fun among the bedpans are Kenneth Connor, Hattie Jacques, Charles Hawtrey, Shirley Eaton, Joan Sims and Leslie Phillips. One for the Carry On connoisseur.
