THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD by Charles Dickens. With Twelve Illustrations by S. L. Fildes, and a Portrait. London: Chapman & Hall, [April - September] 1870. First edition. A total of 14 illustrations, including a portrait of Dickens and a vignette title-page. First edition in ORIGINAL and UNRESTORED monthly parts. This set is the earliest issue of part 6 with the "eighteenpence" slip pasted over the one shilling price on the front wrapper. The "Edwin Drood Advertiser" is present in each part, as well as all of the inserted advertisements, including the rare "Cork Hats" slip in part 2 (see image for condition) . The books are bound in the ORIGINAL blue-green pictorial wrappers.  Part 4 contains the eight-page Chapman & Hall ads at end, which is often lacking in many copies.  All books show age wear and toning to covers, covers are brittle but interior pages are supple and off white to cream.  The covers on Volume one are detached and show excessive edge wear with a tear three quarters along the front cover.  Volume six has excessive edge wear to covers and rear cover is missing a three inch section.  Volume two has the Gaimes, Sanders and Nicol ad on cork.

A very pleasing and completely unsophisticated set, free of repairs or restoration.  Please message me with any questions.
