Item specifics

Type: Plants Sub-Type: Cacti/ Succulents

Crassula Multicava is a pretty Crassula from the Eastern Cape region of South Africa.  The form with plain green leaves is free flowering with clusters of pink flowers which are followed by small bulbils which grow into new plants.  This variegated form is fairly rare in cultivation, slower growing than the green form and we have not flowered it so it is slow to propagate from cuttings.   It shouldn't be confused with the variegated form of Crassula Sarmentosa which is much faster growing and readily obtainable.   Crassula Multicava has two variegated forms,  this one was first named by Gordon Rowley in his superb Crassula book.  The form 'Panache' has bright yellow variegation fading to almost white on the edge of the older leaves.  There is also a slight pink edge to the leaves during the colder months.

We only have two or three of these each year, this is a rooted cutting from last year and it should branch later this year. It measures 9.5cms across and is the plant in the photo.

  • They like to grow in a bright spot and are happy in full sun.  They are not frost hardy, water when dry, about every two weeks. Keep dry and frost free during the winter.
  •    *
  • Post and packing in the UK is £3.20, which is our estimate of the actual cost of the stamps and the box, no charge for any extra plants.
  • Postage to Europe is £8.50 and we use Priority Recorded Post with signature on receipt, postage for extra plants is another 40p each.
  • Sorry but we can’t post outside Europe as Phytosanitary and CITES permits are too expensive and take weeks to obtain.
  • *
  • The plant will be sent ex pots and posted first class and well packed. On receipt pot into free draining compost, we suggest a mix of two parts good quality John Innes soil based compost to one part coarse grit. Use fairly shallow pots, most cacti and succulents are not deep rooted.
  • Payment is best made by Paypal as it is speedy and secure.
  • The plant will be sent within a few days of receipt of payment.  If they have been recently watered a few days are necessary to allow it to dry before posting.

We've been growing cacti and succulents since 1975 and regularly give talks at BCSS branch meetings and judge cactus shows during the summer. If you're not a member of the British Cactus & Succulent Society,  have a look at their website, most branches have regular monthly meetings and there's always a warm welcome for prospective new members.
