Olympic Stadium: Nicknamed "The Big O", Montreal's Olympic Stadium was built solely for that purpose - The main venue for the 1976 olympic games. The stadium was designed by French architect Roger Taillibert to be a very elaborate facility featuring a retractable roof, which was to be opened and closed by a huge 583 ft tower — the tallest inclined structure in the world - 20 ft taller than the Washington monument, yet only the sixth tallest building in Montreal!
Sadly, this beautiful landmark has been plagued by problems since it's infancy. From structure failures, financial overcosts, to extreme labor strikes, Olympic Stadium will have a rebirth of sorts hosting the ceremonies of the 2010 winter olympic games in trying to present a better image. The stadium was only 1/2 built for it's INTENDED olympics back in 1976!
