Are you are having issues with your Drayton SCR wireless thermostat receiver??

The usual symptom is the GREEN light coming on the SCR, but the boiler does not fire up, you have no heating but your hot water is working fine.

So, the reason why your SCR is not working is down to a faulty capacitor, when the capacitor fails it reduces the low voltage supply within the SCR, the relay which switches the heating on needs 24volts DC to activate the coil, if it doesn’t get this voltage then it cannot switch the contacts, listen to your SCR I bet you don’t hear it ‘CLICK’ when the GREEN light comes on.

So what are you buying, you will be purchasing a capacitor which is the course of the problem, the capacitor I am selling is a direct replacement for the one in your SCR, it can be fitted in minutes even by an average DIY'er

No need for a dremmel to cut your case, the replacement capacitor I am selling is exactly the same size. The replacement cap is yellow in colour, but the device on your board will probably be a creamy / tan brown in colour; this is not an issue.

The legs are full length so you can either de-solder the old cap from the PCB or if you like you can cut the legs on the old cap and join the new cap to the old legs, makes no difference either way, if I had to do one I would de-solder from the PCB.

The old capacitor will be stuck to the PCB via either some hot melt glue or maybe a sticky pad, Each new cap will come with a new sticky pad, please cut to fit.

If you do not fancy replacing the capacitor give me a shout and if you like you can send the SCR to me for me to fit it for you for a small fee. The fee would be £11.50. This would include the following: price of the capacitor, my time to fit and also first class recorded delivery back to you. Turnaround would be same day (Monday to Friday). Message me if you more information.

Please check out this website for some feedback on the device I am going to send to you. I am the person named as ‘Dave Cardiff’ on this site:

I hope you have all the information you need, if not please email me.

Items will be sent the same day if order is received before 1pm, if after 1pm it will be the next working day by Royal Mail. (Estimate 1-2 days from order).

WARNING: This E-bay listing is for the supply of capacitors only. Any repair attempts on the SCR you do are at your own risk, any information contained in this listing or sent to you in the guide is for general information purposes only.  PLEASE PLEASE ISOLATE THE SCR BEFORE YOU OPEN IT as there are live mains voltages present in there, if in doubt get an electrician in.

I have just created a document which should walk you through the changing of this capacitor, if you want a copy of it let me know and I can send you it. It is full of useful tips and photos to show the complete process.

UPDATE: I have now supplied / fixed 250+ peoples SCR's via the howtomendit website, check out my feedback there, it looks like the fault is very common but Drayton say there is no issue with the SCR unit!!!! plumbers have been so impressed with this fix some of them are buying 10 at a time, they can't believe how easy it is to fix for such a small fee, well worth it instead of shelling out £100+ for a new system.
