Damon Challenger 335 RV

Description in Brief;

Damon Challenger model 335 1998 R reg  (1999 model)

Chevrolet/workshorse P30 chassis, Chevrolet 454 (7.4L) fuel injected V8 petro -l auto 3 speed with overdrive gearbox

Low mileage, currently at 30633 – engine fully serviced at 29500 including new ribbed (serpentine) belt.

 Taxed until 30th Aug.

** UPDATE** this RV passed it's MOT today (22/03/13) so now has a full years ticket ** UPDATE**

First registered new November 1998, first registered in the UK July 2004 – imported from Florida by previous owner.

Single lounge slide out with slide topper - slide topper replaced last year. HWH hydraulic levelling jacks. The front driver side jack is sometimes a little weepy – doesn’t loose much fluid but requires a top up every six months or so if in use, sometimes doesn’t leak a drop so didn’t see the need to replace it .  This model unlike many has drivers door, full basement thru-lockers with 12v lighting, vast storage space and lots of internal cupboard space.

Onboard 100lb LPG tank for appliances.

Onboard Onan Emerald plus 5000 genset with only 327 hours running time.

This RV is fitted with a Brakemaster  air brake system for towing (not used by myself)

Can be driven on car license (pre 97 test) as GVWR does not exceed 7.5ton.

Good to excellent all round condition. Since I’ve owned this RV it’s had regular use and everything has been exercised and maintained according to the manufacturers recommendations.

Lots of paperwork, receipts and operators manuals.

All the usual American RV refinements much of which is new/updated,  plus extra’s and spares – far too much to list.

The only fault is that the slide out topper pre-sprung system was damaged in the storms recently. The slide out still works properly and the topper itself is unaffected and undamaged, the topper roller bar has lost it's spring tension. However the roller can be manually locked in the in or out position to keep the topper stowed when travelling or taught when in the out position – it is a minor inconvenience but no real problem. I will fix this if I get time or make allowances for it in the final sale price.

I may consider P/X - with cash either way for 5th wheel trailer/RV

Description in detail.

Running gear,

Engine and gearbox are perfect and the RV drives fine. Brake fluid was changed around March year before last – plenty of meat left on brake pads, disc brakes all round. Wheel bearings have been checked, re-greased and are all ok, suspension good, previous to my ownership this RV had been fitted with air ride suspension assistance air bags.

All 6 tyres are good, some were new on when I bought the vehicle in Oct 09 and two were replaced prior to last years MOT.

Everything is solid on the chassis and underneath – no issues on last or current MOT.

Battery connect/disconnect solenoid and auxiliary start solenoid replaced in Feb 2010 and working perfectly.

Charging system is working perfectly via alternator, genset and hookup.

Driver, passenger and barrel seats were re-upholstered in beige faux leather along with a few other sections of trim and the diner seats and sofa bed were re-upholstered (using high quality pub/industrial grade materials) in similar beige colour with soft material in June 2010 at the cost of £1550.00.

Also in June 2010 a new carpet was professionally fitted at the cost of £600.00.

This RV has 240v, 110v and 12v. When on hook up the 240v and 110v are supplied via an Airlink transformer which reduces the 240v down to 110v to power all the original appliances and 110v sockets. The transformer has a 240v bypass which feeds a separate 240v system with 5 double sockets, one of which is in the rear locker. The 240v system runs via 240v consumer unit and X2 MCBs,.

All voltage supplies are protected. The 12 volt system runs directly of the leisure batteries or via the converter /charger unit. The Parallax 7355 converter/charger unit is just over 3 years old and has the automatic transfer switch fitted which autoswitches if the generator or engine is turned on whilst still on hook up supply to prevent any damage to the converter/charger.

Two relatively new flatscreen digital Free view DVD/TVs fitted, 22inch at the front and 17 inch in bedroom area – both 12v and 240v with appropriate electrical fittings for both voltage rates. TV’s are fitted on universal mounting arms so can be angled to suit for viewing from any seating arrangement, the one in the bedroom area tucks neatly away into a cupboard when not in use.  The winegard antenna is also fairly new and is fitted with the winegard wingman digital receiver – both TVs come with remote controls have a perfect picture in all functions.

All appliances work perfectly. The fridge runs on either LPG from onboard tank or on 110v from the generator/ hook up.

The 5 gal water heater runs on LPG  or  electric as it’s had a “hot rod” fitted – this is also wired via an illuminated on/off switch which is supplied from the 110v system so it can be turned on/off as needed.

Internal heating runs on LPG via 12v system, works very well!  Single Aircon unit works via 110v system.

Separate basin, large shower and half bath plus toilet/bathroom area with lots of storage space. 12v extractor fan factory fitted into roof vent. Bathroom floor re-tiled with vinyl wood effect floor tiles.

Three ring gas hob with gas oven, 12v extractor fan and over hob light.

240v Hinari microwave, bought new in Oct 09.

All internal lighting (and there’s a lot of them) are 12v. The slide out is also electric and works at the push of a button.

Double fixed queen size bed at rear with more storage space underneath. Day/Night blinds on side windows, curtains for front windscreen and roller blinds in bedroom.

Diner seats turn into bed and the sofa pulls out to make a bed. Can sleep 4 to 5 comfortably.

The exterior is in good condition, the graphics/stripes have been replaced and were supplied by a proper RV Graphic specialist in Arizona at a total cost of £1320.00 not including application..

The Gold skirt has been re-sprayed as it was looking a little tired where the original lacquer was starting to peel and fade in a few places. There was no substantial damage covered up and I have before and after photo’s to show there’s nothing untoward.

The EPDM roof is in good condition with no leaks – the slide topper fabric was replaced Oct 2011 at the cost of £180.00. The awning looks original but in good condition and fully working. Roof vents fitted with Maxxair vent covers

All the locker doors are lockable except the LPG tank door due to U.S. gas appliance regulation.

Stainless Steel wheel covers with fairly new stainless steel braided valve extenders.

Control/ignition unit replaced on fridge with  Dinosaur control board/unit new Oct 09

Gravity Water inlet/filler cap and city water inlet check valve replaced new Nov 09

New 7355 Parallax power centre (converter charger) fitted Nov 09

Pressure switch on water pump replaced Nov 09

New winegard and winegard wingman fitted Jan 10

Aux start relay and battery connect/disconnect solenoid replaced Feb 10

Other stuff included;

Portable 110v to 240v voltage converter.

New Braided “Never kink” water hose for city water connection (never used).

New RV mate inlet water regulator (never used)

90 degree brass water hose connector (never used)

Onboard LPG tank is fitted with an “extend-a-stay” allowing you to use/switch to bottled gas.

New, Spare water filters.

Water heater tank flusher tool.

110v coffee machine (some use)

Sold with half a tank of petrol/fuel – approx £200 worth

2x fairly new Alpha 125Ah leisure batteries -  new last september

This is a  good, clean example of a popular model. It’s spacious and uncluttered, it can be used with the slideout in with no obstruction. There is so much storage and cupboard space on this RV I think anyone would struggle to use it all.

Since buying this vehicle I have spent upwards of £6500.00 on updating, maintaining, replacing parts etc.  This model and year in similar condition from a dealer would still be 25K plus.
