We are selling my wife's Dawes Lady Galaxy which we bought about a year ago.
My wife wanted to find out if she got on with a more road/race drop handle bars bike frame and we found this. The good news is that she loved it and has been busy setting times on STRAVA on this bike, the bad news is that it is time for the Lady Galaxy to find a new owner as a new bike has arrived and now needs to be paid for!!!
When we bought this bike it had not been used for some time and it was rather grubby and required some minor renovation. In the time we have had the bike we have repaired or replaced the cables, tyres, inner tunes, bar tape and given the bike a thorough clean. As you can see from the pictures it is showing some signs of its age but for a bike that is 30+ years old it is in really very good condition. We were never quite sure of the bikes vintage but I am sure that would would be able to participate in http://www.eroicabritannia.co.uk/ which requires bikes to have been built pre 1987.
I know that the bike could probably do with having the gears sorted as the chain has developed a tendency to fall of the smallest ring the last couple of times my wife has ridden the bike so you may wish to have a tinker with this before you set of on a long ride.
I have measured the bike and from the centre of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat post the frame measures 20.5 inches / 52 cm. My wife is 5'5" and she felt that the bike was slightly on the small side (that said she has upgraded to a 48cm frame but different manufacturers have different geometry and frames have changed over time).
The frame is Reynolds 531 tubing (although the sticker is rather worn it is still there) All the controls as I believe as it left the factory which means that it is fitted with SR (SunRace?) handlebar, Weinmann brakes, the front is a Weinmann Vainqueur 610, the rear a Vainqueur 750, the gears are suntour the front derailleur is stamped Compe-V and the rear a Suntour VX. Hubs are Millard and rims are Weimann. Both wheels appear to run quite true and smoothly.
The bike also carries its original matching pannier rack and Dawes Italia Touring saddle which I am reliably informed is very comfy and a set of Esge mudguards (made in W. Germany which dates these to pre 1989 I guess). The frame is a light blue metallic and features some lovely gold detailing as can be seen in the photos.
Due to size and weight I would prefer collection (from post code area SO45) but if you're serious about wanting the bike and you are not local please get in touch and I will investigate boxes and postage options.
If you would like anymore information on the bike or if you require any other pictures of the bike please do get in touch and I will do my best to respond as soon as possible.
