When I bought this dvd I didnt really know what to expect! When I first started to watch it I thought it was the same old zombie tale! Not much of a plot line!!! When the zombies started to run I was like not this again!!! (when movie directors look into making a movie why do they never look at all the keys fact about the zombie??? like lets say rigamortis!!!! LOL!!!) So from that point (when they started running!) I just ignored it being a "zombie" movie and focused on it being a "infect" movie. As the movie carries on, the blood and guts only gets better and better! It gets gory...alot gory than I thought it would! Apart from the title and some character names, it has nothing what so ever to do with Romeros classic Day Of The Dead! All in all if you are after a movie that will scare you a tad, but love seeing the infected getting killed left right and centre, I would say this movie its one for you!Read full review
George A. Romero's work is plundered, again, for a modernised twist on the zombie movie. Like the successful remake of Dawn Of The Dead, this has ditched the ambling zombies of old in favour of the super athletic undead, here able to sprint, jump and in a couple of instances even scuttle along walls and ceillings spiderman style. Unlike Dawn Of The Dead, Day Of The Dead bears very little resemblance to the film it claims as its source - some of the character names are reused, a little time is spent in a missile silo and a domesticated zombie seem to be the only connections. Also Unlike Dawn Of The Dead, this isn't very good, it's just another survival horror, with an ever decreasing group of the living running from one place to the next trying to find sanctuary. There's the customary bickering, and hidden agenda's within the group, but no real surprises. The plot doesn't hold up to to close a scutiny, it seems coincidence that brings most of the characters to the radio station, and coincidence again to find themselves in the missile silo. The box boasts extreme gore and violence, but alas, most of the effects are clearly CGI and quite tame in comparison to the graphic scenes of dismemberment seen in the original film (the work of special effects legend Tom Savini). Despite all it's floors, Day Of The Dead remains a very watchable movie, it waste's very little time in getting going, it moves along at a brisk pace, preferring action to story telling and contains a high body count and scenes of bloody carnage. In summary, Dumb Fun. an enjoyable film with enough blood and bullets to keep you watching till the end, but with too many plot holes and not enough depth to warrant a second viewing.Read full review
