For sale is one subtly modified 1994 Lexus LS400.

The car was built in a last-minute fit of fun for the annual PPC £999 Challenge ( organised by Practical Performance Car Magazine. The idea is to buy or build the fastest car you can for £999 (with a valid MOT) and race it against other entries on the drag strip and around a handling course. Some people enter standard road cars, some spend the year building impressive one-off projects.

The plan for the Lexus was the former of the two options, but then it all became a little out of control I went on a mission to see what we could do with it in just two days. A poor quality replica of the Chevy Lumina from 1990 flick Days of Thunder was the result.

Suggested uses:

1. Entering it into the PPC £999 Challenge next year. There is a laughable amount more weight to be removed (it still has working aircon, cruise control and an electrically-adjustable steering column), plus add some bigger anti-roll bars and I guarantee you'll be laughing your head off by the end. If you add a manual gearbox you might actually do quite well...

2. Pulling Nicole Kidman.

3. Budget drift or track car. It goes sideways very well indeed and all four tyres are like new, despite my best efforts.

4. Opening a really terrible replica 'Cars of the Stars' museum. Other exhibits could include a black Transit with a diagonal red stripe up the side and black Ford Probe with a strip of red leds on the front.

5. As an engine donor for a kit car/conversion project. The engine is in fine health, has done 120k or so and has a virtually full service history until 2006 and 86k miles (service book included which has a comical marbled finish as standard). It runs very well indeed, and happily soaked up the 480 mile round trip to the PPC £999 at Santa Pod in one day, include a decent thrashing whilst there.
In fact I had so much confidence in it that the only tools I took were pliers, zipties and gaffer tape, just in case.

6. Entry into the cliquey world of Scientology.

7. Banger rally car. The aircon is still ice cold, the cruise control still works and the steering column automatically retracts when you remove the key. Although you'll have to go on your own as there is just one seatbelt.

8. Making your neighbours think there is something wrong with you.

Modifications include:

- Polycarbonate rear side windows and sunshine roof. These are almost watertight.

- Side exit exhausts. Four silencer boxes were removed for efficiency, and although it is loud, it is not ridiculously so. It sounds nothing short of spectacular. Plus, the cats are still in place (and worth nigh-on £100 at a scrapyard) so there is no reason in theory why it couldn't pass another MOT next year. After all, the TVR Sagaris has side-exit pipes and that is road legal.

- Lowered ride height. Yes the springs are cut, but carefully so with flattened tops and not so much that they even begin to dislocate when the car is jacked up. As you can see, the rear isn't as low as would have been good, but by that point it was Sunday evening and I was hungry.

- Loads of trim and interior removed. This was surprisingly difficult compared to other cars I've had the pleasure of stripping as Lexus screwed it together so well. It must have lost 250kg at least. I have a box full of much of the switchgear that was meant to be sold on ebay but nobody seems to buy LS400 spares as nothing ever breaks.

- A two-tone paint jpob that Chip Foose would be proud of. The top half is nicely matt black and the bottom lime green. Since the bottom half was rollered on household paint it was also lacquered so that it didn't run off when it rained. Having driven the car through a couple of storms I can testify that this worked.

- Ultra-light aerodynamic racing door mirrors. Otherwise known as clip-on towing mirrors.

- Some stickers. These took me ages to cut out with a knife from a black background as it cost far too much money to get them printed and cut properly.

- Front window nets to stop arms flailing out in an accident. These were made from the other four seatbelts and I am yet to get this unique staple-design FIA approved.

- Although the car is taxed until the end of January, due to the high chance of the car being bought as an engine donor this tax is not included in the final price of the auction! It is available at cost but I will claim it back otherwise.

- The seat is borrowed from my car and so is not included either! I know this is pretty inconvenient, but I couldn't find another bucket seat in time. It may be available at extra cost, or if you seem like a very decent and honest person I might allow you to drive home with it if you leave a deposit/iPad/McLaren/other behind. It could be couriered back or I could maybe pickup in the future, who knows.
I am also (probably) prepared to deliver the car if paid for in advance and if travel fees plus a few beer tokens for my efforts are covered. I can then unbolt the seat and take it back on the train. Yes, I know that makes me a little strange. PLEASE NOTE: Not a bus or coach, that would be far too inconvenient, although I could sit in my own seat in the aisle and pretend it is a single seater bus.

Serious stuff:

It is MOT'd (for ages) and runs really well, if I had somewhere to keep the car I'd keep it as it was great fun for the money. Although I really need to sell it asap I'm not giving it away, as I'd rather have some more fun then weigh it in and sell the engine. I'd really like someone to use it 'properly,' ideally for the PPC £999 Challenge again next year. If I see you there in it then I'll even buy you a cuppa.

Only actual normal car 'issues' are that the dash takes a while to warm up when cold - this is a common fault on 99% of LS400s, it can take from 30 seconds to 10 mins to come on but always does. The MOT had advisories for slight play in a balljoint and a brake imbalance. These are both occasionally noticeable but not a problem - the MOT was only last month and I'd happily drive it anywhere.

Pickup must be made ASAP (6 days absolute max), within 4 days essential if you aren't paying for the tax so I can reclaim it before the end of the month (I'm tight remember). It doesn't have any front windows fitted so they are currently taped up with plastic and the car is off the road in a friend's yard.

I do have a load of the parts that were removed (inc. all glass). Not that I expect anyone could be bothered to refit it.

No bidders with less than 5 positive feedback please or your bid will be removed. Payment by cash on collection unless you are paying by bank transfer in advance for the car and delivery.

The car is in Newcastle upon Tyne. Y'know, that place oop North with the bridges n'tha where all those people ran on the telly on Sunday. It is not that far and I've even suggested that I might be willing to deliver it for a slight incentive.

Finally, £10 discount if you can prove that your name is actually Cole Trickle.

Edited for [Julian] clarification - the 'load of parts that were removed' described above are not included in this auction.

I was mentioning them in case anyone might want any as well - you can check out my other items for a few that I managed to list in the overwhelming excitement of Free Listings Day last week.

In response to a few people asking:

Please note that no, this item is NOT suitable for pulling Katie Holmes, only ol' ginger locks. I suggest you search eBay for a famous person's sofa to jump up and down on if you require the later model.

Come on folks, so close to the reserve price now....
