I have to admit that this book didn't end up being quite what I'd expected. Reviews I'd seen had led me to believe that there was some sort of time-travel element involving the main protagonist. In fact it's more like a series of parallel universe type scenarios the point of which seemed to be to highlight the fragility of life and the many and varied ways we can meet an abrupt end. That said, the majority of the stories were very engaging, with only a misstep or two along the way. Although on the surface the book appears to be 10 stories that only share the same central character and many of the same supporting characters, questions from early in the series are answered later on making it a more rounded reading experience. This is a very 'slice-of-life', character driven tale and not for you if you're looking for spandex and big action sequences. But, if you're not, I'd highly recommend this book. As with all the Vertigo Deluxe editions, production values are high and it's a lovely looking volume. So far, there hasn't been a second printing so if you order now, you'll get a 1st edition.
