What is Decking Stain?

Tough and durable decking stain which colours and protects.

Formulation

Water-based.

Coverage

Smooth wood: 16m2 per litre per coat.

Touch Dry

Decking Stain will normally be touch dry in 2-6 hours in good drying conditions. When applying subsequent coats allow to dry fully before recoating (normally 4-6 hours) avoid heavy wear and tear for a few day after application. On previously decorated decking touch up bare areas to dry before finishing with further coats.

Thinning

This product should not be thinned.

Safe for use around Plants and Pets

This product is safe for use around animals and plants once dry. Keep pets away from treated areas until dry, if product drips onto plants, wipe off with a damp cloth before it dries.

Where can it be used?

Decking Stain is formulated for use on new or existing wooden decks. For maximum performance on decks you should apply decking stain to all sides of exposed wood.

Preparation

Surface should be free from algae and mould. Where these are present , brush decking to remove old dirt and debris and then clean the surface with a decking cleaner. Rinse well and allow to dry.

NEW WOOD: if necessary wipe with white spirit to remove any natural oils / resins.

WEATHERED WOOD: Completely remove all grey wood by sanding back to clean sound wood and / or use a decking restorer.

PAINTED WOOD: Sand off or chemically strip existing coating then treat as bare wood.

SOUND WOODSTAINED WOOD: Wash with decking cleaner to remove dirt and grease and allow to dry.

Application

1.        Stir thoroughly before and during use.

2.        Brush on evenly along the grain avoiding overlaps.

3.        Ensure that decking is thorough dry before use.

Do not apply in wet conditions or if rain, dew or frost is likely before the product has dried.

Clean up

Reseal can after use. Clean up any spills immediately with water and a household detergent. Wash brush and roller with water. Do not empty product into drains or water courses. Some local authorities have special facilities for disposal of waste coatings.

Important

Final colour will depend upon wood type, previous treatment and the number of coats applied. Reseal can after use. Clean up any spills while still wet. After use remove as much product as possible from brushes before cleaning with water. Do not store or use in extremes of temperature and protect from frost.

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water. Keep out of reach of children. Do not apply in temperatures less than 10 °C or in high humidity.

Always test all paints on a small inconspicuous area first to ensure colour and finish are acceptable and that there are no reactions on the surface being coated with the paint.
