I bought Delta Goodrem's debut album after seeing her perform 'Born To Try' on Neighbours, as character 'Nina Tucker'. Needless to say from the very first time I listened to it, I was hooked. This album is filled with catchy lyrics, emotion and beautiful piano pieces that are virtually impossible to get bored of. 'Innocent Eyes' includes all the hit singles which were released in the UK, including 'Lost Without You' and 'Not Me, Not I', but there are many gems which are otherwise unavaliable such as the beautiful and simple 'In My Own Time' and the fun, almost swinging 'Throw It Away'. Delta wrote, or co-wrote the majority of the songs on this album all before turning eighteen. In comparison to the fuller-sounding follow up, 'Mistaken Identity', there are more tracks which can be classified as 'filler tracks' but they are all nevertheless still enjoyable. 'Innocent Eyes' has huge appeal to a wide audience, and I'm sure will remain a firm favourite of many for years.Read full review
I originally bought Mistaken Identity after hearing Delta sing on the Westlife album which, I thought was a great track. Mistaken Identity is a superb album and my favourite to date. The next one I bought was Delta which, although is good, was not as good as Mistaken Identity as there are a couple of tracks on there which are a bit too upbeat for me. Don't get me wrong, the rest of it is superb as well. My reason for not buying Innocent Eyes until now was because the reviews I read weren't that great. Having listened to it quite a bit, I have to say that I agree with those reviews. It is okay but I think the other two are far better. Clearly Delta has developed her singing since Innocent Eyes which is only good, but I just hope she doesn't follow the more what I call semi Britney route in the future. As a ballard singer with a really great voice I will continue to buy her albums if she continues on the path of Mistaken Identity. Her lyrics have a lot of meaning and you can tell that she is singing from the heart with real life experiences. It is tragic what she has been through and to be able convey what she does is excellent. The positives that she draws from life which have made her a survivor, must have made her a stronger person and long may she continue with her own heartwarming style of singing. From certain tracks it is evident that she can sing with power and if her music evolved in such a way that this power was combined with her ballards, her music would be dynamite.Read full review
The Australian songstress was launched to international audiences acting in long running soap-opera "Neighbours". To say the least she is not exactly what you would have expected from a soap star turned singer. Some synical types would have instantly written her off as another manufactured bit of fluff but if you buy this amazing "debut" album you will soon realise that she is more in the league of musical greats like Celion Dion and Kelly Clarkson. You could say Delta has a voice reminiscent of the French-Canadian song bird Celine but with one twist she writes her own music like her chart hits: "Born to Try" and "Lost Without You". A massive thumbs up!
When Delta released her first single, Born to try, it didn't really strike a cord with me. Her next single, Lost without you, was catchy and stuck in my head. But it wasn't enough. It wasn't until i heard that brilliant song, Innocent Eyes, that i relised how great her songs really were. I rushed out and bought the album straight away. This is a truly fantastic record. Delta has shown that she is not a cheesy soap star who just wants extra pennies in her pocket. She co-wrote most of the songs and plays the piano on every track. Obviously this album isn't for goth head-bangers or people with a dislike for artists that can actually sing and aren't manufactured. Lets just say you have to listen to this record to believe it.
