2012 NiCad Battery and 240V AU Charger
Listed are these combinations of a single 18V 2012 2.4 Amp Hour NiCad battery and 240V Aussie charger.
The DE9116 Charger is a 240V Charger with our Aussie plug so you don't need to buy a stepdown transformer, converter or adaptor of any kind.
Made in Germany by Dewalt themselves, the charger is the best NiCad charger around. It will handle any of your existing NiCad batteries - DE9096, DW9096, DC9099, DC9098 etc. It won't recharge Li ion batteries and you need a DC9310-XE charger for those.
This DE9116 black model is the latest available from Dewalt.
Yellow models by the same model number are 2009 and older.
This DE9116 charger comes with an "automatic maintenance mode" function for keeping your batteries in the best condition possible.
You can leave your NiCad battery sitting in the DE9116 charger for extended periods of time with no harm caused. Your battery will be fully charged up and ready for use even months down the track if you only use them infrequently.
This charger comes standard with our AU plug and can be immediately used at any workplace in Australia.
The DC9096 18V NiCad Battery is Dewalt's top of the range NiCads rated at 2.4 amp hours.
It replaces DW9116, DE9096 batteries and is a superb upgrade from DC9098 and DC9099 NiCad batteries which are lower Amp Hour batteries.
These batteries are tough as nails and provided you look after them correctly, they should provide up to 3 to 4 years use or 400 to 500 recharges.
Pictured above is exactly everything you will receive.

A bit of advice to users:
This combo will last you a long time provided you follow these basics.
1. After every 10 or so discharge / recharge cycles or once a week or fortnight, leave your battery to sit in the DE9116 charger overnight. This allows the batteries to be automatically conditioned so that each cell gets optimized and restored to maximum capacity.
When you simply charge up any battery, the charger says that the recharge is done after an hour which means that the battery overall has been topped up to around 20V. However this is the sum total of the charge and not every cell performs identically. The "automatic maintenance mode" function then acts on each and every individual NiCad cell inside the battery and brings these cells to maximum capacity.
2. Contrary to what some people advise, you should not run down these NiCad batteries until they are completely exhausted. This will cause your batteries to come to an early and premature end due to the nature of the chemistries involved. Never tape the trigger of your tool to fully discharge any Nicad.
When you "hear" the battery slowing down while in use, is the time to take it out and swap in a fresh battery. Half of the reasons why NiCads don't seem to last long enough is because they are pushed beyond design limitations. This contributes to the negative "memory effects" that NiCads experience when treated that way. You will never avoid the "memory effects" completely, but you can extend the lifespan of any NiCad by treating it correctly (as well as regularly conditioning it).
Beware of the DE9130 30 minute "rapid" charger as it does more harm than good to your NiCad batteries. That model doesn't come with the maintenance mode function and will truly shorten the lifespan of any battery. Fast recharging - yes, but at a serious cost to the longevity and performance of any battery.
This combo is the best value for money way of establishing the infrastructure you need for using Dewalt's outstanding range of 18V tools. Once you have these basics in place, the tools really are not as expensive as you may think for top tradesman quality Dewalt products.
