The Dimarzio HS-3 is famously Yngwie Malmsteen's pickup for many years. In the bridge it sounds warm with good amount of crunch to it. It retains clarity in fast picking notes and any kind of lead playing basically. It has relatively low output but has some output to get it going in lead styles. On the neck it sounds compressed and powerful sounding... meaning it really screams. Good for just showing off to an audience all your expressive technique and control of the string. I put two HS-3's in my Aria Pro 2 strat copy, one on the neck and bridge. They blend together well. I'd say it sounds cold as a combination but it's really up to the player to make it sound warm. It can sound a bit fake especially on the neck position. But you don't have to be real to sound like a great guitar player! I was expecting the 2 HS-3 on the neck and bridge to sound like it anyway. I was going for the tone in the 1985 live in japan video. Read full review

This is a great pickup. It is not to far off of what a stock strat pickup sounds like. The difference is. It is some what louder,It takes distortion better,Pick atack is better and more responsive. And its hum cancelling.
