An absolute must have for Discworld fans; full of nods to the books (Terry Pratchett had a hand in making it after all). It is also full of other pop culture references (Monty Python I'm looking at you!). So the story goes as follows: you control Rincewind the most inept wizard on the Disc (voiced by Eric Idle no less!) in a point and click adventure. The goal of which is to find Death, as in the person not the biological state, who has gone missing. This results in the dead just hanging around uncollected, very unhygienic as you can imagine. I am quite impressed with how Discworld 2 has stood the test of time (it came out in 1997 after all). Sound and voice acting are as good as a CD. The graphics and character animations are also what you would expect from a 15 year old format but I'm glad that the designers used cartoony graphics as this really adds to the atmosphere. The only major downside is the gameplay aspect, of which there is very little beyond deciding what to click on. What do you expect from a point and click game after all? But even so this plays as more of an interactive story. But the real challenge is the item collection and working out when to use/combine each item in a certain situation. For example, later on in the game Rincewind must find a way to appear dead so he must use some find some ice to prevent his breath misting up on a mirror during an examination. One recommendation though, don't play this game and then play the first Discworld game. That one really shows its age, for example there is a noticeably pause when loading sound effects. There is no comparison, this game is better in every way that Discworld 1 (the only minor exception is no Tony Robinson and Jon Pertwee in the voice cast but you do get Nigel Planer instead). So finally I can wholeheartedly recommend this game to Discworld fans as well as fans of games like Broken Sword (the first 2 as the gameplay and graphics are similar to this game). I do have however trouble recommending it to a non fan or someone who not familiar with British humour. But that’s just my opinion, check out the opening comic on YouTube for a feel of the game and decide for yourself.Read full review
It's an amazing story and the gameplay is fun. It's like playing one of Terry Pratchett novels.
