Ducati Mk1 Superlight Number 171 Reg M928 UUG
First registered on 10-8-94 nearly 2½ after first being delivered into the UK! This was because they didn’t sell well as they were too expensive, I think more than a std 851.
This is my Ducati Superlight Mk1 number 171 of 952 manufactured in 1992
522 were made for the European market of which this is one, 300 went to the USA but these were later on in 1992 and were all Yellow and featured the newer style tank with rectangular breather.
This is the 12th oldest known survivor worldwide and the 5th in the UK!
I own another MK1 Superlight Number 110 which was featured in a 9 page write up in the August 2013 issue of Practical Sportsbikes, I enjoyed saving that one so when number 171 came up for sale in a pretty unloved state I felt it was worth saving, however I knew from the outset that it was going to require a full strip down and rebuild.
I have literally stripped it down to the last nut and bolt and replaced or refurbished anything that needed doing, I have kept receipts for all the parts and these will go to the lucky new owner. These come to £2200 !! let alone the many hours of my labour.
The bike has been restored back to original standard condition except for the 2 component Marvic wheels which have been replaced with Brembos, the Marvic wheels suffered in use and the bolts were known to come loose and elongate the holes in the rims, the rear wheel had suffered this and had been thrown away by the previous owner. I do have the original front wheel but this is not included in the sale.
Full strip down which included, Crankcase gallery oil plug replaced loctited and centre punched ( a common fault on these 2 valve engines and one that if left un diagnosed will cause a catastrophic engine failure) please bear this in mind when looking at others because if there is no recent evidence of it being done then bear in mind it could happen and will be very expensive!!
New Genuine gaskets and o rings all around, new cambelts, valve stem oil seals replaced, combustion chamber cleaned and heads re shimmed.
New clutch plates and clutch release bearing.
New Front Sprocket and retaining plate, New O ring chain.
New Galfer Front and rear pads.
New Michelin Tyres
New SKF & Fag wheel bearings
All electrical connections checked and some replaced.
Switchgear stripped and cleaned.
Carbs stripped and ultrasonically cleaned.
All carb O ring and seals replaced with Viton ones.
All brake calipers stripped and cleaned.
Frame Powder coated
Wheels Powder coated.
Fuel tank seals and Filter replaced.
Full respray by my painter (painted for the factory WSB Ducati teams he is brilliant!!)
I have plenty of previous history that came with the bikes including all Mots up to 2004 when it was last used.
There you have it you could buy a cheaper alternative but be landed with a lot of extra cost.
This has always been a UK bikesrc="http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o554/sim201161/Ducati%20Superlight%20MK1%20No171/Number.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo Number.jpg"/>
