~ An early photograph album showing period photos of the Japanese military during the years of the Anglo - Japanese Alliance preceding WW1 ~

This photograph album features a number of interesting and rare photos placed in a hard cover photographic sheet format.

It is nicely bound and the front cover features medium size Japanese writing in silver pen relief and a sketching of Mt Fuji.

The photos show a variety of scenes including , troops and other various military figures engaged in various activities, some posing for photographs. It features a number scenes of Japanese barracks, army schools and training camps all taken during a particularly important period of change in Japan.

~ History ~

The Anglo - Japanese Alliance treaty was signed between the United Kingdom and Japan on January 30, 1902, and announced on February 12, 1902. It was renewed in 1905 and 1911 before its demise in 1921 and its termination in 1923. It was a military alliance between the two countries that threatened Russia and Germany. Due to this alliance, Japan entered World War I on the side of Great Britain. Japan attacked German bases in China and sent troops to the Mediterranean in 1917. Through this treaty, there was also great cultural exchange between the two countries.

There are a total of 70 black and white photographs, providing a fluid and interesting history from one photograph to the next.

~ Dimensions ~

The album measures 14" (36cm) in length and 10.5" (27cm) in width.

~ Condition ~

All of the photos are in very good condition with some aging but all are clear. The photographic sheets are in very good condition with no significant scratches, blemishes or markings. The spine, front and back cover are in good condition but do feature a little age wear.
