Item: English Sterling Silver Edwardian 1908 Apostle Egg Spoon William Devenport of Birmingham.  A wonderful Antique Edwardian 1908 Apostle Egg Spoon made in Birmingham. the spoon shows an Apostle standing on a plinth , bible in hand, wonderful barley twist stem leading down to tear drop bowl, much detailing to the Apostle, highly polished silver finish. For the most part, these spoons were made individually. Wealthy grandparents would buy one spoon representing a babies "apostle" and it would be their Christening present. This spoon would be used only by that person and it would be kept for life. The phrase "to be born with a silver spoon" stems from this tradition. I have seen that people are now purchasing Apostle Spoons for Christenings or Communion Presents, or gifts.  This comes un-engraved.  For the collector or investor of fine English Silverware.  Great Maker
