I bought the Epiphone SG 1966 G400 Reissue. I paid $300 for it with no intention of playing it the way it was. It's a $300 guitar that plays like a $300 guitar. HOWEVER, it makes the perfect donor platform to build the SG of your dreams. Before buying the guitar, I bought Gibson replacement parts as follows (basically to build the signature Angus Young American SG). I bought Classic '57 pickup for the neck. Angus Young Signature pickup for the bridge. The Gibson Nashivile bridge. Gibson stopbar tailpiece. and 1968 custom rebuild of the internal POTS and wiring (expensive $135). I took the box of parts and the guitar to the best guitar luthier in the area and had them completely setup the guitar, including fret work (round out above 12 - typical for an inexpensive guitar) and a replacement of the plastic nut with bone. All that I left on the guitar was the body, neck, tuners and the pickguard. That's it. The guitar is milled with mahogany to the exact same specs as the Gibson SG Standard. Yes, I now have over $800 in the guitar, but it plays like $2,000. If you can get past the fact that it says "Epiphone" on the headstock. You can build a dream guitar. Buy the guitar if you're a beginner and build on it as you get better. Do it one piece at a time if money is an issue. I did stage work for 15 years as a pro, this guitar is that.Read full review
Some of our favorite guitar player's use the SG. We are aficionado's of music but it had been some time since we had a guitar in the house so we decided to start smaller. It has a full crisp sound. The body is gorgeous. When I received this guitar I was so pleasantly surprised at how clean it was and well packaged. VERY happy with this purchase!

I'm fairly new to guitar but this model was recommended to me by several friends that have been playing for years. Everything about it feels solid and well built. I've had no issues and it plays wonderfully. The frets feel good and contact easily. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to get started without spending a lot of money.

have played severral guitars over the years when it come to playing lead and movving freely down and up the neck in all positions the sg-400 has these qualities. easy to get up to the 22nd fret without a guitar body getting in your way. the pick ups sound fantastic and with a 3 way switch different sounds are available. i wont ever purchase another guitar great price, quality and sound what else it there?
Although this guitar was everything advertised, and played well; I took everything chrome off of it including the pickups, and replace everything with gold, including gold covered PRS humbuckers with a treble bleed on the bridge circuit. My son-in-law is a semi-professional and couldn't stop playing it when he got his hands on it. Everyone thinks it's beautiful now.
