Sharpe was a very fine series and getting two episodes together was very nice, well worth the price I paid. Having converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included. I've always enjoyed this particular series. Two episodes on the same disc, real value.Read full review
Sharpe's Battle Sharpe is given the task of preparing the glamorous Royal Irish Company, led by Lord Kiely, for their first encounter with the enemy... Sharpe's Sword Sharpe's latest mission is to protect the identity of the master spy El Mirador...
I acquired the Sharpe DVD specifically to see the uniforms of Sharpe's unit and see how the DVD would be against the full story. Having watched some of the original TV editions I did not get into the Sharpe series and it was only recently that I was introduced to the full Bernard Cornwall Sharpe stories. Once I stated reading the books I was completely hooked but I needed a visual to appreciate the character.Obviously the DVD only do a condensed version of some of the full novels but a good imagination is required for the battle scenes and Sharpe's ladies and prominent characters .I have not read any similar period war stories and watched even fewer DVD's but the Sharpe stories are based on actual historic events which only creates a keen interest in the history.
