FENDER TELECASTER CUSTOM 72 RI ELECTRIC GUITAR
Crafted in Japan S serial. Rare in UK, includes Fender Moulded Case
Finally up for sale is my Japanese Tele Custom 72 with CIJ S+6 digit serial number (2006-2008). This will be a late 2006 guitar as I bought this guitar new in January 2007 after playing a lot of Mexican Tele Deluxe guitars and being very disappointed with them.
These are, as far as I am aware, still produced in what was the Tokai factory, only for the Japanese domestic market, so they are quite rare in the UK. If you want a new one, you will more than likely have to buy one from Japan, import it yourself and stand the customs charges when it lands or buy from a company such as Guitar Emporium. They currently sell this Tele model for £899 with an optional Gator Poly case costing an extra £85 on top, total price £984 - http://www.theguitaremporium.com/Fender-Japan-TC72-FJ-TC72.htm
This was my main gigging guitar from 2007 to mid-2008 when I started playing Les Pauls. In 2011 I sold the last of the LPs and went back to playing this (in conjunction with another couple of Teles) as it's just such a nice guitar. Why am I selling it? I was recently lucky enough to buy a Custom Shop 72 RI and, whilst I'd love to keep both, I can't justify having two virtually identical guitars.
And they are virtually identical - the CS guitar lists at nearly 3 times the price of the Japanese guitar yet there is not a lot to distinguish between the two - the CS guitar comes with a fancy case, strap and tool kit (none of which will ever get used), it's a bit lighter and probably uses a slightly better quality wood, but that's probably as far as it goes, the Japanese guitar really is that good.

As a gigging guitar it has had some careful use. There is a very small amount of fretwear (does not affect playability), there are some shirt button scratch marks on the back, pick marks on the front of the body and pickguard. It had a pro setup when I bought it and it is very playable. Tone is every bit as good as my USA Fenders and I (personally) think this is one of the best looking guitars you can buy.
This is not to be confused or compared with a Mexican made Tele Deluxe or Tele Custom - it's got an ash body (as per the original 72) which the MIM guitars don't have, the Wide Range Humbucker is tonally more similar to the original and the overall quality is fantastic. Also included is a genuine Fender moulded case I bought separately to store and care for the guitar.
The price reflects what I believe the guitar to be worth, plus the value of the case and a contribution towards what it's going to cost me to sell on eBay. IF (big theoretical 'if') I was to attempt to sell this guitar privately elsewhere, it would attract a discount due to having to absorb the cost of selling on eBay. Ideally, cash on collection from Leicester city centre is welcome. If you want to play it before buying, give me a call on 07899944123 or send me an email via the ask a question link, bring your amp or you can use my Mesa. Shipping will be by 24 hour courier and will cost £25 due to the cost of insuring the guitar to the value it sells at.
The boring bit - if you click buy it now, I expect you to buy the guitar. If you have any questions to ask, please ask them before buying. If you wish to buy from outside the UK, you MUST (with no exceptions) contact me for a shipping quote BEFORE buying. I have shipped guitars all over the world so am happy to ship on receipt of cleared funds. All rights of the seller are reserved.
