My name is Gading and I am 31 years old and im from Bali, Indonesia.

I, along with other members of my family are in the business of making items from real driftwood, like mirrors and peices for the home.

When i was growing up my father owned a small business in Bali that sold Driftwood handicrafts. His work was to craft decorative items from drift wood (which is collected from the beaches) His customers mostly comprised of local traders in Bali. After joining my father’s business I found great pleasure in this craft and tried to help support the family creating and selling it.

We were fortunate to be spotted by the Siiren people, and after we started working for Siiren our lives changed for the better. Previously we had to work day and night to accommodate our basic needs, as local traders used to pay us quite less for our work. Now I along with my wife, brother and sister we work together for Siiren and make enough money to live quite a comfortable life. I aim to work for Siiren in the future and produce artifacts with superior quality for people around the world and maybe become a household name as the great artist of driftwood. 

Siiren is a verified fair trade importer of exotic handicrafts. Owners and Directors, Daniel and Natasha Cummings manage this family owned business with the help of a large dedicated team of staff members.

Siiren is based in the somewhat sleepy town of Newton Abbot, Devon where we have a total of three warehouses where you can come over and see the products for yourself and get a real feel for what we do.

The company was established only 7 years ago and it took a year of research and planning to conceive this unique brand. Siiren is a member of BAFTS, the British Association of Fair Trade Shops, and we are proud to do business in a way that is beneficial to everyone involved.

At Siiren, we believe that every human being has a right to lead a happy life, and by providing financial security and honest trade to over 200 families of skilled craftsmen in Bali, Indonesia, we are doing business with basic rights and sustainability in mind. 98% of our stock comprises of verified Fair Trade products, and there are no middlemen involved to ensure that the craftsmen get their dues fairly. None of our products are produced in sweat shops and we can guarantee no child labour.

We visit our team of craftsmen quite a number of times throughout the year to make sure that their association with Siiren is mutually beneficial, and that they are as happy with us, as we are with their work. It gives us great pleasure that we are responsible for changing the lives of over 200 families of skilled craftsmen who didn’t get due recognition or compensation for their art. By teaming up with Siiren, these amazing artists are now enjoying financial security and prosperity. We have introduced them to a global market and have made them aware of their crafts’ worth. 

Siiren understands that true art can only be created from one’s heart and soul, and we make sure that our artists work without any pressure or stress. Therefore, all orders are placed with 100% upfront payment to the artists and we don’t impose deadlines on them. This is why the pieces they create are really beautiful and touch the beholder’s heart and soul. Each of our artists has a unique story behind them, and it is their lives, experiences and spirituality that enables them to create such beautiful pieces for our customers.

In the spirit of Fair Trade, we never work with middlemen or large companies. We have a one-on-one relationship with all our artists and make sure that they get a fair worth for their craft. We make certain that the craftsmen are not exploited by middlemen and thanks to our direct dealing the craftsmen get up to four times more than what any middleman would usually pay them. Siiren does not make any extra profit by excluding the middlemen; we pay the craftsmen the same rate that we would have paid had we used a middleman to get these handicrafts. The only profit here is the satisfaction that our workers are receiving due worth for their skills. 

We visit with our artists to ensure that they have decent working conditions. We have spent time in our craftsmen’s open air workshops and gardens where these lovely artifacts are created. We have seen grandparents lending a hand in weaving mesmerizing dream catchers embellished with intricate patterns that are richer and all the more interesting thanks to their life experiences. We have experienced the joy on innocent faces as we take out sweets and goodies that we bring for the children of our craftsmen on every visit. We have a unique relationship with these amazing people and our lives are all the more richer thanks to them.

All our products and handcrafted to perfection and are created using the finest quality wood and other materials. We ensure sustainable practice at every level of production and have educated our artists accordingly. Siiren has maintained plantations so that we replant the trees that are cut down to create these pieces. We also advise our craftsmen to use specific kinds of woods to maintain sustainable production while ensuring high quality products. Suar wood is used for larger pieces as it grows very wide and has a coarse grain. Teak roots are used since this is a by-product and effectively a waste that we utilize to create beautiful pieces. A lot of our products are made from Albesia wood. This matures to full size in five years and we replant enough trees in our plantations to ensure sustainable production.

Siiren takes great care that all Fair Trade standards are met before we purchase handmade products from a supplier. We check for wood cutting licenses and make sure that proven sustainable sources have been used to create these handicrafts. A unique serial number and stamp is required as proof that the wood used in a product has been obtained through legal and sustainable sources to ensure environment friendly production.

Mainland United Kingdom

We offer a number of different delivery options which will be outlined below.

Our standard service will take approximately 3-5 days for your delivery to arrive. This service will be dispatched using a standard courier service which is fully tracked and insured.

Our expedited Courier service offers a guaranteed delivery within 24 - 48 hours and will be charged depending on the product size and weight. The basket will automaticly inform you of the cost before checking out. This fully tracked and insured service will be treated as a priority package.

Upon dispatch of your goods our chosen courier will send you a text message and/or Email. This is just a courtesy message informing you that your parcel is in their possession and instructing you of the planned delivery date. On the day that the courier has told you your parcel is out for delivery please look out for an email and/or Text message as they will text you with the EXACT 1 hour slot they plan to deliver. This will save you the hassle and stress of hanging around for a courier all day long !  If for any reason you miss your time slot the courier will attempt delivery twice more and you can arrange this via the email or text message you receive. 

Smaller items which are generally under 60cm in length and less than 2kg in weight will be sent via a Royal Mail First class recorded delivery service. Royal Mail tracking is slightly different and will show a live data stream but will only disclose that your item is currently out for delivery or has been collected by a neighbour for example.

Our pallet delivery service is used for large items for example our garden furniture or extra large wooden statues. This service takes around 3 – 5 days for delivery. You the customer will be unable to trace the item personally through our pallet network, but by simply phoning our customer service team on 01803 813318 our representative will find you the live information and whereabouts of your pallet.

European Union Including Ireland

For most parts of the European union our couriers offer a 3-5 day delivery service as standard on any consignment over 60cm in length and or 2kg in weight.

Upon dispatch of your goods our chosen courier will send you a text message and/or Email. This is just a courtesy message informing you that your parcel is in their possession and will be delivered shortly.

Any package sent within the European union under 60cm and/or weighing less than 2Kg will be sent via Royal Mail Registered delivery. This offers equal insurance and tracking facilities to that of our courier and will normally take within 3 - 5 days for your consignment to be delivered.

These delivery times are exclusive of weekends and public holidays.

For customers outside The UK, specific postage costs for each product will be available as you add your required product to the basket.

Worldwide Including U.S.A & Canada

For most parts of the Worldwide destinations our couriers Fed Ex offer a 4-5 day delivery service as standard on any consignment over 60cm in length and / or 2kg in weight. 

Upon dispatch of your goods our chosen courier will send you an Email. This is just a courtesy message informing you that your parcel is in their possession and will be delivered shortly.

Any package sent to worldwide that is under 60cm in length and/or weighing less than 2Kg will be sent via Royal Mail Registered delivery. This offers equal insurance and tracking facilities to that of our courier and will normally take within 5 - 7 days for your consignment to be delivered.

These delivery times are exclusive of weekends and public holidays.
