|Film Title/ Movie Star:||Meryl Street|
This is not only a sale, but an opportunity to buy pieces of film & TV history!
On Offer are three one of a kind sets, available absolutely nowhere else.
The House of Commons, Prison and Courtroom sets have been at home at Wimbledon Film and Television Studios for a number of years but now they are looking for a brand new loving home.
THE HOUSE OF COMMONS
The House of Commons set is virtually a one to one scale replica of the House of Commons. When fully erected, the set is approx 5,000 square feet. When in storage, the set can be housed within a 2,500 square foot warehouse. Used in the international Blockbuster ‘The Iron Lady’ starring Meryl Streep, the sale represents a rare and genuine opportunity to purchase a genuine piece of British cinematic history. Complete with all seats, it can also, with clever dressing, be made to look like the House of Lords, by replacing green benches with red ones.
The set was originally built for First Among Equals (1986) at Granada in Manchester.
It then made a regular appearance as part of the Granada Studios Tour from 1989 -1999 [now closed].
It was also used regularly in shows such as The New Statesman (1987-1992).
In 2002 the whole set was purchased by scriptwriter Paul Abbott so that he could use it in his BBC drama serial State of Play. As a former Granada scriptwriter, he bought the set personally to save it from destruction. Following the end of State of Play, Abbott put the set into storage in an Oxford shire barn.
THE COURT ROOM
The courtroom is a 2,500 sq ft freestanding set with an incredible attention to detail. Including a chamber in waiting immaculately dressed with public seating, the juror’s chambers, a judge’s bench and a dock.
Filming in a real court room is something that is expensive and impractical so why not invest in your very own court.
The Court room is perfect for film or TV production, events or even just playing a judge!
The prison set was until recent times, a 2,000 square foot prison set, permanently resurrected at the studio in March 2012. The set proved invaluable to productions as it is virtually impossible to film in UK prisons. The set is designed with a 40 foot communal corridor area bordered by cells, security gates at both ends, with a warden's office, and a flight of stairs up to the mezzanine level and the governor’s office. The mezzanine level can be used to provide excellent shooting positions into the communal prisoner area beneath.
