Ghost Railroads of Nebraska

A Pictorial

by Michael Bartels & James Reisdorff

This is a BRAND NEW BOOK – Not a used book.
Book is wrapped and mailed in a top-quality, durable container.
A Railroad Bookmark is included with each book.
We try hard to be the NUMBER 1 Railroad Book Dealer on ebay with 1,500+ titles.

NOTE:
This book went Out of Print in 2014 and is no longer available.
This is the last book.

Book recounts the decline of many of the steel roads that once tied cities and villages together in economic prosperity. Using photographs, text and maps, railroad historians Michael Bartels and James Reisdorff examine both the history and impact of railroad abandonments on agriculture-oriented Nebraska.

An inventory is made of the corporate giants, short lines, Interurbans, and industrial spurs that were all part of the state's one-time rail network of about 6,250 miles.

There is also a look at current efforts to maintain rail freight service to many towns.

Finally, the book illustrates what historic artifacts have been preserved--and lost--along the abandoned grades of Nebraska's ghost railroads.

Photos in this book cover all eras of Nebraska railroading, from the early steam engine days to today's short lines.
