Perfect size for what I needed. Fast refresh rates, and as close to perfect color as I have seen in a widescreen of this size at a very reasonable price. Controls ate quite easy to use, but they have a very short time out, so if you need to think a little bit about what you need to modify, you, in all likelihood will have to hit the same control two or three times before taking any action. Gamma correction from the factory is a little too bright for my tastes, and needs to be pulled back a little. This appears to be a Gateway characteristic, as I had to do the same on my Gateway notebook. Why a good rather than an excellent? The stand is archaic. Since the monitor is VESA 100mm standard, I bought a VESA compliant stand replacement. Much better than that which comes with the monitor.
I bought it because it was stylish, and had the features I wanted. While all flat panel monitors are HD, the picture on this monitor seems especially bright, and clear. Response time is 8ms, not great in that respect, but I haven't noticed any blurring during intense games. The HD really shines while watching DVDs, so make sure your video card is HD capable. Controls are easy to operate, and even better, you can install software that works through Windows to adjust the controls. No more repeated button pushing to get the correct contrast, etc. A home run deal!
It's pretty easy to hook up, but the monitor doesn't swivel or adjust. You have to buy an adjustable stand. The 1440 x 900 resolution is good enough for my purposes, but my old, bulky, small-screened Viewsonic beat it hands-down. The so-called "EZ-Tune" installation CD is a laugher. I never could get it to work and tech support was not much help, so I left it with factory settings. I kept re-installing and the system kept prompting me to re-install. And the anti-theft deterent is a joke. If you ever lose power to the breaker, good old EZ Tune makes you re-install it, so you'd better remember the password! The video controls are on the side of the screen-- out of sight but you have to memorize which button is for what. Some like this feature. I don't. All in all, the 19" screen size is an improvement for me, the color definition acceptible, and the price excellent for value received.Read full review
The Gateway FPD1975W 19 inch LCD Monitor (FPD1975W)is wonderful! It's super bright and it the perfect size. Any bigger would be too big, and any small too small. The only thing that is a little annoying is that whenever you turn on the computer the monitor has a menu that pops off that you have to turn off... but I bet there is a setting to turn off that feature.
One of the nicest HD LCD's on the market!! The monitor is plug-n-play, the picture quality is wonderful and even includes anti-theft software (If the CD is included with your purchase). I now have 5 of these monitors and love them all and I am sure that you will like this monitor as well.
