This is a focus through anamorphic attachment similar to the Panasonic LA7200, the Century Optics, and the Optex anamorphic lenses.
As you already may know, the lens can be used for filming on modern HD video capable DSLRs to generate a cinemascope ratio image.
It widens the field of view horizontally by a factor 1.33x, leading to a cinemascope 2.39:1 aspect ratio frame (starting from 16:9).
This is a very much sought after anamorphic lens since it is very straightforward to use.
Comes with a 52mm rear thread that can be directly attached on the filter thread of your taking lens.
If the diameter of the filter thread of your taking lens is different than 52mm, you can use appropriate step up or step down rings to fit the lens.
After fitting on the taking lens, the anamorphic rotates so that perfect alignment can be achieved.
This is new old stock. The lens comes with original caps and pouch. Lens in Perfect condition. Unused.
Very difficult to find one in this condition. They are getting very hard to find anyway.
This is the only Anamorphic lens that I am selling.
From my personal experience, the major advantages of this lens are:
1) Easy focus through process. Just focus with your taking lens
2) Possible to rack focus
3) Out of the box 2.39:1 cinemascope aspect ratio.
4) By contrast to other anamorphics, you can mount this anamorphot on a truly wide angle lens (24mm on APS-C sensor does not vignette)
and go really wide for establishing shots, landscape or ultrawide effects.
Generally speaking, it is difficult to get the focus through anamorphic lenses like the Panasonic LA7200 to shoot sharp images at apertures below f=5.6.
It is also difficult to shoot with telephoto lenses. Image becomes blurry most of the times.
Therefore, it is almost a challenge to mount such lenses on the 5d Mark II.
The solution to all of the above problems are low power diopters made of quality glass. - I am selling here -
And whilst it is almost impossible to make reasonably priced diopters fit to the LA7200 lens due to the form factor,
you can easily mount such filters to the Generic Anamorphic lens and give a truly new dimension to shooting with this lens!
Check my experiment below on the benefit of quality glass low power diopters on this type of anamorphic lens.
I was blown away by the sharpness you can gain even wide open by using diopters.
This is definitely the way to go for shooting low light, close ups, shallow depth of field or telephoto with this lens.
Diopters gave a new life to this already special anamorphic lens.
