Item specifics

Seller notes: Wear and tear consistent with age and use.
Type of Glass:

Blown Glass

Object Type:

Glasses

Glassware Era:

Pre-1840

Country of Origin:

Britain

This is what we believe to be an English, wrythened, dwarf ale glass dating from the late 18th century, c1780. The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot consistent with 200+ years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the foot. The glass has a funnel bowl measuring 6.2 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter at the rim. The glass has wrythening from the bottom of the bowl to the top. The bowl sits on a wrythened cushion knop, and a short piece of wrythened stem. The stem leads to a shallow, conical foot which measures 6.6 cm (2.6 inches) in diameter. The glass itself is 13.2 cm (5.3 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. It is made from English lead metal.
