Work started on Fort Horsted in the mid 1880's while there was considerable alarm in England being generated by the terrortorial ambitions of Germany and France. it was decided that five forts be constructed around Chatham to increase it,s defences.

Work started on Fort Horsted in 1880 using a force of convict labour from nearby Borstal prison and under the supervision of the Royal Engineers.

Built in the shape of a six sided arrow head, each flank being protected by machine guns within the counterscarp galleries, the fort being home to 400 men and women during this period.

The fort was completely deserted by the early 1990,s and very much in need of attention. The fort was purchased at auction by Avondale who started to use the fort as a business office whilst still retaining it,s hisorical original features.

It's hauntings are many and numerous and said to include :

* A Large black shaggy dog wandering around the numerous tunnels

* The voice of a little girl has been recorded by visitors

* Shadowy figures witnessed in the abandoned tunnels

* Areas so scarey security gaurds refuse to patrol !

* A negative energy said to make visitors feel rather uncomfortable, nervous and feeling very sickly!

* The ghosts of a mother and her young child has been seen walking the grounds wearing very old clothing!
