You are considering this 2008 Gibson Les Paul Standard in Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish, for sale as a buy it now for £1120.
The 2008 Les Paul Standards were specified such that Gibson took an already musical, playable and durable instrument, imbued with the best features of their successful Les Paul models over the past 5 decades, and updated it with some modern improvements. So what you get in a 2008 Standard is a perfect combination of the Les Paul’s heritage combined with Gibson’s considerable skill and knowledge in improving yet staying true to the spirit of the world’s best-loved guitar.
This model has the same cherry sunburst finish as was first introduced in 1958 on production Les Pauls, including the flamed maple cap which is more subtle, just like the most famous examples. The cap on this particular guitar has a deep glow to it and is very stirring. Mahogany is used throughout the rest of the guitar, and the Burstbucker Pro humbuckers have plenty of depth and power, but are still articulate and refined. They are excellent pickups. The Holly-veneered headstock has the Gibson inlay in an abalone style, coupled with Grover locking tuners with chrome tulip heads - these are premium quality items which complete the fantastic look of the headstock. The rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays tones beautifully with the sunburst finish. The modern features include the asymmetrical neck, which combines the best of both the ‘59 and ‘60 neck profiles and feels really natural and comfortable in the hand. Also the chambered body is superbly done, as it gives the guitar more resonance when played acoustically but leaves the response unaffected when the guitar is played through your amp. It also takes the killer bit of weight out of the guitar which means you can have it strapped on for hours with no backache or other discomfort….and this guitar sounds so good either way, you will want to play it! Lastly, there is the locking saddle and tailstop from TonePros, heavily chromed and rock-solid, and the Bourne gold plated pots on a PCB, for smoothness and durability. There is no fancy switching, just your two pickups, volume and tone pots and a switch, so you can get on with playing rather than fiddling with various tonal options…part of what makes this guitar a real Les Paul. It's a future classic, to be sure.
Made in Gibson’s Tennessee plant in 2012, the guitar was purchased brand new last year from Hollywood Music in Milton Keynes and It has only been played around the house since. It has picked up a little light scratching to the Nitrocellulose lacquer, and a couple of small impression marks. I have photographed these, deliberately putting them in a bad light so you can see them at their very worst. At a casual glance, the guitar looks new. Nitrocellulose is chosen by Gibson as it shows wear quickly, the idea being that your guitar starts to attract a patina from the word Go. Give it 2 or 3 years, and it has more of a vintage vibe...so truthfully, the scratches and marking are just the start of the ageing process. Rest assured these are very minor, I am just trying to be perfectly honest.
The guitar has a brand new Gibson hard case, plush-lined (standard issue), with the original unfitted scratchplate and all booklets and tags. This is a fantastic guitar for the price and has a heritage second to none, so if you feel your heartstrings being tugged, think seriously – can you live without it? If not – can you afford it? If so, hit the buy it now so you don’t miss out to someone else, and this fantastic Gibson Les Paul will be yours to play and cherish.
Collection is strongly preferred so the guitar does not have to endure the shipping process, but I have a cardboard box and some packing so I can ready the guitar for transit at the buyer’s risk. I am happy to deliver at cost within 25 miles of J27, M62 (West Yorks). Paypal is preferred but real folding £20 notes on collection are acceptable. I am sad to sell but I have two almost identical ones, and one has to go. Pick up would have to be between 8 and 9 on a weekday evening or Saturday / Sunday mornings. Any questions, please ask…and thanks for reading.
