Greco SG Style Guitar, 1989, Made in Japan

Although it's surprisingly difficult to find detailed information on older Japanese guitars, I believe this Greco, closely based of course on the venerable Gibson SG, was made in the late 1980s, probably 1989.  It was the signature model of Kanako Nakayama, guitarist of a band called Princess, and over the years the model was known as the SS600-P2, SS-65P2 and SS-80P2 (the numerical part of the name was based on the list price in Yen, which changed over the years but the guitar itself seems to have stayed pretty much the same).

According to the Greco catalogues, the guitar has a mahogany body, together with a glued-in mahogany neck and bound rosewood fingerboard.  It's constructed very much like an early-'60s SG/Les Paul Standard, but has the dot fretboard inlays normally found on an SG Special - so overall it reminds me of the SG Glenn Tipton of Judas Priest used in the 1970s.  The guitar is very light in weight, even by SG standards.  The neck has a nice rounded profile, neither chunky nor skinny.  The pickups are "Screamin-KN" models; I don't know if these are the same as the well-regarded Greco "Screamin" pickups, or if they were tweaked to Kanako Nakayama's requirements.

For a guitar approaching 25 years of age, it's in very good condition.  There's one fairly big dent in the front of the body near the lower strap button, and a number of chips and scuffs around the edges, but overall the finish looks good; the back of the neck is unmarked, there are no chips around the headstock and (unusually for an SG) there's absolutely no hint of finish cracking at the neck joint.  The frets are in excellent shape with very little wear.  Some of the screws are a bit rusty and the nickel-plated bridge, tailpiece and pickup covers are well tarnished.  However, other than these cosmetic details, the neck is straight, the neck joint is perfect, all the parts are (as far as I know) original and everything is in good working order.

I'm afraid I don't have a case for this guitar, but I'll send it in a gig bag and will make sure it's extremely well boxed and packed for protection.
