This is one of the few surface mount fans that I could find. i.e. it does not protrude into the exhaust duct. It is super to fit. Dismembering the fan into its component parts is easy. This results in a separate backplate to be screwed to the ceiling/wall and the wires connected to a socket on the backplate. Once that is secured the fan unit can be easily plugged in and a cowl and the final box is easily added. No more trying to hold the fan up to the ceiling to connect it. Beware the documentation is not too exact regarding the order of line/neutral - follow the labels on the fan. Otherwise a super replacement for a bathroom extractor fan.

This fan is noisy. It's not just roar from the air. There is quite a lot of mechanical (vibration) noise too. This is made worse by the fact there is no sound insulation between the fan and the mounting plate (eg rubber buffers). So if you install it in a ceiling it makes the ceiling act like a sounding board. This is a centrifugal fan (rather than axial) which is essential when you have long duct runs. (In my case from a ground floor WC to the roof.) If you are just venting air through a wall, do yourself a favour and get an axial fan - they are much quieter.

Ideal replacement for the older Greenwood airvac SF90 extract fan, fixing holes almost the same, only the cable entry needs adjustment but has a handy channel moulded in the back for this, covers the old sf90 footprint perfectly and now has the bonus of a removable filter.
