 Up for sale is an incredible Helmut Lang jacket from the S/S 2004 collection, one of mr. Lang's most renown and iconic seasons (photos above & below). It is a size IT 50 that is definitely unisex (pictures from a women's editorial can also be found below), and due to its drop-shoulder style it could accommodate pretty much every size between an IT 44 to a 50; I am a 48 and it fits me well. The jacket has been worn sparingly, and is in excellent used condition with no discernible signs of wear. It was dry-cleaned right before the auction. Made in Italy like all original Helmut Lang garments and 100% authentic. The jacket is made from a tightly woven cotton with a subtle polyurethane coating, and is unlined. The elastic ribbed trims on the waist, cuffs and neck are 100% wool which is incredibly soft. The cut is Helmut Lang's typical bomber jacket cut, with a somewhat fitted silhouette compared to the boxy fit of most bomber jackets and slim sleeves. It closes with an industrial Lampo zipper (which conforms to Helmut's signature whim of extending below the fabric edge) and features two exterior pockets. Most notably, it features Lang's signature grosgrain cotton straps on the interior waist, with a set of metal D-rings on the jacket's lower back. The straps can be adjusted to alter the fit of the jacket and are undoubtedly one of the most remarkable looks in Helmut Lang's body of work. Helmut Lang's work in the late 1990s and early 00s produced some of the most groundbreaking and profound fashion of the two decades, and his clothes are just as relevant today as they were when they were designed. His bondage-inspired detailing is one of his most iconic touches and this jacket serves as a testament to his uniquely intertextual sartorial vision; in my opinion, it belongs in someone's personal wardrobe as much as in a contemporary art museum.
