Lovely SHETLAND SHEEP FLEECE for sale today on Ebay ideal for spinners and crafts people who are seeking a good source of healthy soft fibre to spin into their own design of yarn by hand or on their spinning wheel. Hampshire-reared Shetland sheep from a herd with show stock, this soft fleece ranges in colour from a dark chocolate brown through to an inner darker, almost black colour with no breakage in the staples that range in length from a few centimetres to maximum about 5.5 cms. Un-washed, lanolin-rich, with organic debris from the field mainly picked out and sheared in the summer of 2013. This is a big, heavy fleece weighing circa in excess of 4 lbs or circa 1 kilo 500 grams or more, and will be posted to the winning bidder in a temporary clear plastic bag. It is recommended to wash such fleeces fairly soon and to store cleaned fleece within a large paper-based bag (or jute sack) and not a plastic one as fleece needs to be ventilated. This entire fleece is soft to the touch and without any visible 'kemp' hairs. The postcard you see dangling from the bag of fleece and the Sheep Breed poster are for display purposes to show you the type of Shetland sheep that this fleece is from - poster issued by The British Wool Marketing Board of Bradford, Yorkshire - website: www.britishwool.org.uk and shows you the white type of Shetland sheep. Shetland sheep, so the postcard informs us, could have been introduced into the U.K. by The Vikings and became a Rare Breed at one time until their numbers increased sufficiently during the 1980s. This fleece is ideal for hand-spinners being soft and convenient variable staple length. It can be used to make designer yarns suitable also for weaving and/or felting crafts. (In one photo, you will notice a dish of PATOUNIS vegan pure olive oil soap flakes which, when a few are pre-soaked for a few hours, will make an ideal eco-friendly washing agent to clean your fibres with and suitable for people who are allergy-sufferers as the soap only contains olive oil, sea salt, a trace left of lye (natrium hydroxide - essential for soap-making) and water -see our other listing for these soaps and soap flakes. (FREE SAMPLE of 50 grams of such 'flakes' will come with every fleece sold!)
