Burnlee House is a beautiful two bedroom holiday apartment, located in the picturesque Holme Valley, in the village of Holmfirth. Renowned for it’s rich heritage and breathtaking scenery, Holmfirth is a popular holiday location and perfect for anyone looking for an idyllic getaway.
Burnlee House is a beautiful detached stone property dating from the early 1800s and retains much of its original features! There are two double bedrooms, a bath/shower room and large living area with a fully equipped kitchen, dining table and chairs. It is close to Holmfirth centre (6 minutes walk) and only a few minutes drive from the Peak district. The area is great for walkers, cyclists and people to enjoy the great outdoors.
When you've had your fill of being outside Holmfirth has plenty of teashops, bars and restaurants. A few doors down from Burnlee Apartment is a traditional pub serving excellent food (the chef is great!) and real ale. Please have a look at the Farmer's Arms - http://www.farmersarmsholmfirth.co.uk/
Holmfirth became well known for the 'Last of the Summer Wine' series and there are many easily recognisable shops and buildings in the centre. It has a rich industrial heritage (mainly wool) which had a big impact on the architecture in the village. There is also the Holmfirth Picture Drome which has been hailed as the 'North of England's finest intimate music venue' and always has some great events in the calendar -http://www.picturedrome.net
Holmfirth is also the hub of a creative community and there are many exhibitions, festivals and music competitions throughout the year.
Walking Around Holmfirth
A choice of circular, riverside and reservoir walks are within easy reach of Holmfirth as you travel south west towards Holmbridge and the Peak District National Park. A highlight walk from Holmfirth goes southwest past Holme up to the spectacular Holme Moss View Point (525m above sea level) via the A6024 Woodhead Road. A car park sits near Holme Moss off the A6024 road for easy access. Stunning views of West Yorkshire towards Huddersfield can be seen from this high viewpoint. There is also the popular Holme Valley Riverside Way Walk (starts from Magdale) which runs for about 6 miles and links Holmfirth with pretty nearby villages including Honley and Netherthong. The popular and more challenging Holme Valley Circular Walk commences from Berry Brow near Huddersfield and winds around the Holme Valley for around 24 miles, taking in top historic sites and spectacular viewpoints in the area. (We have walked a big chunk of this walk - it's gorgeous but rather hilly!!)
Reservoirs to the west and southwest of Holmfirth including Digley Reservoir and Ramsden Reservoir are sites for spectacular reservoir walks (there are guides on the Yorkshire Water website). Great family friendly walking trails sit around the Digley Reservoir with plenty of opportunity to extend walks into the Wessenden Moorland within the Peak District National Park.
The Holmbridge and Holme Walk is a 5 mile walk taking in the Pennine Moors and Peaks hills. This walk pushes past Yateholme, Ramsden and Digley Reservoirs. Maps and guides to all these popular walks around Holmfirth are available from Holmfirth Tourist Information Centre and we have a range of information leaflets already at the cottage.

We have had a lovely week here in Holmfirth staying in your wonderful apartment. It is so cosy and welcoming. You have thought of everything. We will return again very soon and can't think of any place we would rather stay than Burnlee House.

This is a highly recommendable holiday cottage. The location is excellent with a small local town with various touristy shops and amenities. We spent a few days browsing online for short break holiday deals and couldn't be happier with choosing Burnlee House. It ticks all the boxes for a relaxing, peaceful, picturesque and enjoyable break away from city life. I believe that this maybe one of the best holiday cottage sin Holmfirth if not the Yorkshire region. Thanks.

A lovely relaxing weekend. This is a delightful apartment with enchanting décor. We felt warm, secure and pampered! Loved the off road parking, ‘welcome basket’ and a pub around the corner. A great night at The Picturedrome was a bonus.

Stephen and I really enjoyed our stay. Holmfirth is such a lovely place and the views are fantastic. Although a very hilly place it didn’t cause too much effort to get out and about in the village. The apartment was lovely and the extras on arrival were just what we needed. The rooms were lovely and cosy and we could have stayed in bed all day as the bed was so comfy. We will definitely be back so that we can explore further and go on those great walks.
Kathryn and Stephen, Leeds - April 2013
Holmfirth is a beautiful place full of very nice people always willing to help. The flat is very spacious and warm and cosy. 10/10. The Farmer’s Arms serves fantastic food. It is so good we had to sample it two nights running. We would highly recommend visiting for an excellent dining experience. The views of the Holme Valley are stunningly beautiful. Overall had a fantastic long weekend. Excellent all round.

This home is lovely. Your hospitality is fantastic and it’s warm, clean and in a great place. Comfy bed and everything we need is here. Big fluffy towels and fresh eggs.
Jayne Lea, Lincolnshire - March 2013
Three of us stayed here for three nights walking, mountain biking, the PictureDrome, Real Ale pubs and dry weather – oh yeah! Holmfirthers know how to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. The accommodation was excellent in every way. No complaints. A great place at a very reasonable price.
Nick, Mel and Tim - March 2013
Very welcoming on arrival. The extras were a nice touch and much appreciated, especially the homemade marmalade. The log fire made it very cosy and added to the character of the house. The views were fantastic from the apartment and the location was perfect for the village. All in all, a nice clean apartment with everything needed. Thanks for making us feel at home.
