IBC ADAPTER Fitting to 1" BSP MALE THREAD Reducer Outlet Valve Buttress Tote Tap
This is an adapter to fit standard UK and European IBC Containers which 90% (approximately) of the time are a 2" (50mm) BORE, with a 60mm Buttress/Coarse Thread (measured thread edge to thread edge). The other types are 3" and 4" bore which are used the remaining 10% of the time. I have provided plenty of information with regard IBC fitting, so simply scroll down through this listing to read further.
This adapter converts the S60 buttress IBC outlet thread (after the valve) to a more useful 1" BSP MALE pipe thread, for you to connect as you wish.
Be sure to use plumbers tape on your threaded pipework connections in order to prevent leaks in your pipework connections after the adapter. I sell this tape in my ebay shop (CLICK HERE) which you can add to your order along with the adapter, and receive free postage on the tape. You do not need this tape for making the IBC connection as a seal/gasket is included with the adapter, only if you wish to use threaded connections after the adapter.
---- SEAL Options (Internal Adapter Seal & Adapter to IBC Seal)
All of my adapters are fitted with internal Buna N (Nitrile) seals, and an external EPDM seal where the adapter connects to the IBC outlet thread, in order to provide a leak proof connection.
You can either choose the standard seals, OR choose all Viton (FKM) seals which have superior chemical resistance. The reason to choose all Viton seals, is when your product or chemical is not compatible with the standard EPDM and/or Buna N (Nitrile) seals, which will result in a leak due to chemical attack.
If you are just using water, such as for allotment/garden/farm irrigation, this is 100% compatible with ALL of the seals AND materials I use, so you can simply select the standard seal
option above without further consideration. It's that simple.
On the other hand, if you are going to use the adapter with a chemical such as Carbonic Acid, for example, you will need to choose the Viton Seals option, as the carbonic acid will dissolve the internal Buna N (Nitrile) seals and result in a leak due to chemical attack.
You can read more about chemical compatibility, by scrolling to the bottom of this listing where I discuss this further, and provide some links to reference information/sources for you to check further.
---- ADAPTER Usage & Suitability
This adapter is engineered from strong industrial plastic, suitable for heavy domestic use, and light industrial use.
It is NOT suitable for heavy industrial use, such as tanker offload duties, where a metal version such as stainless steel or aluminium adapter would be more suitable. I don't currently sell the metal version, although watch this space as this will be added to my range in the coming months.
If you plan to use chemicals with this adapter, then be sure to check that the chemicals are compatible with Polypropylene, which is the strong industrial plastic that the adapters are manufactured from. It should be obvious that as with the seals, if the chemicals are not compatible with the material (polypropylene) then this will result in a leak due to chemical attack, which will soften and dissolve the adapter material.
As I mentioned, with the seals above, you can read more about chemical compatibility, by scrolling down to the bottom of this listing, where this is discussed further along with some useful links.
of my adapters fit the most common type of
UK/European IBC thread on the outlet pipe
(after the valve), which is
known by any of the following
60mm - Buttress/Coarse
Schutz Brand IBC (Buttress/Coarse thread - NOT FINE Thread - See below)
DIN61 or DIN 6131 Thread
2" or 50mm with a coarse thread.
(This is easily confusing, if you
measure thread peak to thread peak then
it is 2.5" or 60mm. If you were to
measure the ID or bore (Internal
Diameter) it is 48 - 50mm, which is
where the 2" comes from. They
are both the same IBC outlet, the
common type, just measured
The Outlet/IBC thread
has the following dimensions
Thread Diameter =60mm (D1)
Thread Pitch = 4mm (P1)
Thread Root = 54mm
Threads on IBC outlet = 2 - 3
(There are 4 threads per inch, but
outlet pipe is less than 1", hence 2 -
will look like the picture below
This is the most common thread size and in use approximately 90% of the time.
The other 10% of the time, you will encounter either a :
S80 (3" Bore)
S100 (4" bore),
FINE Thread (measures 58mm edge to edge with 5 - 7 threads per inch, like a plumbers pipe thread)
This adapter does not fit those types, although I will be adding these to my range in the near future, so check my ebay shop for the latest items
CHEMICAL COMPATIBILITY - AND - DO I NEED VITON SEALS?
As mentioned above, it is important to consider the chemicals/products you will be using, and whether these are compatible with the seals and materials of the adapter.
If you are just using water, it is not necessary to think this deeply, and you can simply choose the standard seal option without further consideration.
On the other hand, if you are using a chemical such as Carbonic Acid, you need to check if this is compatible with the materials of the adapter (polypropylene) and the seals options. You can do this either by clicking on the link below, or by consulting other sources.
Using Carbonic Acid as the example, and clicking on the link, we can see that this is chemical is 100% compatible with polypropylene, which means that it will not attack the adapter material. However you should also observe, this is not compatible with Nitrile (Buna N), but is compatible with Viton, which means it would attack the standard seals, and therefore you must choose the Viton Seal option.
If the product of chemical is not compatible with polypropylene, then you need to either choose a stainless or aluminium based adapter, or treat the adapter as disposable, and keep a watchful eye out for leaks.
