|Decade:||1920s||Vintage Type:||True Vintage|
Breathtaking original vintage late 1920s/early 1930s dress in vibrant deep red. This dress is made from incredible intricate floral lace with an attached matching red silk under layer. It's extremely rare to find garments of this age and this particular style with their original under-slips still in tact so this is a truly incredible piece. The under layer is also a little shorter than the dress so you get the full affect of movement in the gathered lace of the skirt.
The dress is in that stunning extravagant flapper/Gatsby style. It's extremely elegant and would look right at home in a classic Hollywood movie or on a red carpet.
Pieces from this era are becoming increasingly difficult to source- just think it's nearly 100 years old! So use this opportunity to pick up a beautiful and fascinating piece of fashion history at a really great price.
For its age I consider the dress to be in a good vintage condition. It does however need some TLC to restore it to it's former glory.
As is to to be expected there is some damage to the lace. There are a significant amount of holes throughout (see photos above for examples of the largest) and these I believe could be painstakingly restored with a considerable amount of patience and the right skill set. The straps are a little strained and would benefit from being reinforced.
The silk has obviously aged and is a little brittle (this occurs naturally over time) this has weakened it somewhat and it has some rips in places (see photos for examples).
There are a couple of marks that are not too noticeable or obvious.
There are no fastenings on the dress and the under arm opening does gape open. You could easily fix this with a few popper studs/hook and eyes- this will be very cheap and a simple job to do.
Even when restored- just because of its age- I would not recommend this piece for vigorous wear.
As it is it would still make a wonderful study piece or collector's item.
MEASUREMENTS (approximates) PLEASE NOTE that it is difficult to conform vintage garments to modern day sizes, this is why I do not provide sizes. PLEASE READ the measurements carefully and compare them to your own for estimate of fit.
Please note this dress is intended to be worn loose.
Due to some problems with buyers in the past, I am reluctantly having to be a little strict. Please carefully read the information below before bidding.
