How To Wear or Drape a Normal Saree
§ Firstly you should emphasize on two of the most important parts of the attire, both of these compliment the saree. Those are Petticoat and Blouse.
§ Petticoat: should be tightly ted to the waist with the use of drawstring. The color of the petticoat should match the base color of the saree. It should match as closely as possible. Make sure that no part of the petticoat should be visible outside the saree.
§ Blouse: The design and the color of the blouse depends upon the saree, the blouse can be sleeveless or sleeved. The blouse should end just below the bust.
Steps to Drape a Saree:
§ Tuck in the plain end of the sari into the petticoat.
§ The position where you need to tick in the saree is right to the navel.
§ Make sure that whole length of the saree is hanging at the left hand side.
§ Now wrap the saree once on your waist
§ The sari is now back in the front, on the right hand side.
§ Now it’s the turn to make pleats
§ Start making pleats from the tucked in end
§ Make around 5 to 7 pleats, the pleats should be of equal width for eg it can be of 5 inches.
§ To check if the pleats are proper see if the pleats are falling straight and even.
§ If you want to save them from scattering you can use pin
§ Now tuck the pleats in to the petticoat at the waist.
§ The pleats should be slightly towards the left of the navel.
§ The pleats should open to your left.
§ Now wrap the remaining fabric around from left to right
§ Bring the saree round your hips to the front.
§ Now rise the remaining saree slightly.
§ Bring the saree up just under the right arm.
§ Take the saree to the left shoulder.
§ Now holding the upper end drop the saree.
§ The saree should fall to the knee level.
§ This part of the saree is known as Pallu or Pallay.
To prevent it from slipping every now and then from your shoulder you can pin it up at your shoulder as well as to the blouse.
