My first impression on unpacking was 'wow, it's *really* thin'. I'd assumed it's 4cm thick, a kind of brick shape. In fact it's 4mm thick, it's literally a heat-pad. This means you slot it in nearly anywhere. It even flexes slightly so you could place it against the curved wall of a fishbowl, for example. It seems to be very well made, solid and sturdy looking. I was surprised that others have negative comments about build quality! My tank is ca. 20l, towards the upper end of the recommended size for the 15w heater. From others' comments I wondered if it would manage to heat the tank enough - or if it would overheat! My impression was of a variable build quality, that meant some of these pads heat up more than others. Now, having tried it, I have a different explanation: At first I tried the pad on the wall of the tank, in the corner behind the filter. I thought it might heat the water as it was sucked into the filter to then be around the tank. After 24hrs this setup only heated my tank by ca. 1c above ambient temperature. Undeterred, I tried placing the pad under the gravel in the middle of my tank. This made a huge difference to the heating effect. After 24hrs my tank was ca. 5c above ambient temperature - that's a jump from 20c to 25c which is ample heat for my hardy guppies, shrimp etc. Since positioning had such a big difference to the effectiveness of the heat pad, I recommend people play around with it before trashing the product. If your setup is too warm, move it higher up and further into a corner, so excess heat can dissipate out through the glass. If your setup is too cool, bury the pad under your substrate just as I did, and the heat will be absorbed and retained much better. I'm really glad I took a chance with this heater, and have also bought a 7.5w for my mum's new nanotank. If you have delicate fish that need constant and/or high temps, you really need a thermostat-contolled heater. If, like me, you keep hardy fish in a small tank then the Interpet Deltamini is a good choice. Good quality and value for money, and at 7.5 or 15w it's economical to run.Read full review
