Lord Of The Rings
Hello. Here's my first edition collection up for sale, sadly for me. Loved for an age, but needs must. Thanks for looking.
FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING
4th Impression 1955 November 1955 – 3,000 copies printed.
No DJ, gilt on spine slight fading, front cover marked in two places. Edges slight wear, one 2mm wound to front lower edge & corners worn slightly.
Slight yellowing to FEP & BEP, owner-inscribed ‘M.G. KREMER. ST. JOHN’S COLL. OXFORD. 1956.’ Plus same owner surname in green c. 3cm long.
Pages all sound. Some glue damage to penultimate page due to map insertion / book opening too wide & 1cm tear to top of where map attaches to book.
THE TWO TOWERS
2nd Impression 1955 – 1,800 copies printed.
No DJ, gilt on spine slight fading, front cover white markings all over. Edges slight wear.
FEP marked with owner’s surname ‘KREMER’ in green, c. 3cm long.
Pages sound, bar some damage to a few esp. Pp. 228 & 229. Map perfect.
RETURN OF THE KING
2nd Impression Nov 1955 – 4,000 copies printed
DJ worn – edges torn at corners (none over 1cm.), unclipped, soiled, owner (KREMER) inscribed to front of DJ in green felt pen & same on FEP.
P. 49 has slipped text printing errors corrected in later editions.
p.80-81 binding between signatures loose, although stitching intact.
Pages all V.good+ condition; red dyed top slightly speckled with water droplet marks.
PLEASE NOTE: All three volumes were inscribed by the same owner - a 'Mr. Kremer' - who was an alumnus at St. John's University College in Oxford, UK when J.R.R. Tolkien was also living and lecturing in Oxford at a neighbouring college.
Part of a treasured personal collection. But needs must... thank you for bidding.
