Hello, I welcome you to NihontoArt.  I currently have a Website where you can purchase directly some unique Japanese treasures. You are welcome to visit me at:  Nihontoart  where you can find many other unique antiques for sale. I will be uploading swords within the next few weeks. You can contact me through ebay or directly through my website's address with any questions, the link is on the homepage under "contact", if for whatever reason I don't reply it is because the email has not been properly received, please try again.

Please see the bottom of the page where many pictures are posted below, and take the time to read the full description (it is worth the time)! The purchase details are listed at the bottom.

I am posting this really beautiful Yoroi in original Dark Lacquer dating back to Earlier Edo Period (~350+ years old). You will often see Mix-Matched sets for sale which are a compilation of pieces from various armors, the sellers are asking ridiculous prices for non original sets. With this is a set you cannot go wrong. I have been collecting antiques for for many years and I would like to share these great finds with you at very fair prices. Please keep in mind that there are many antiques on ebay, but be cautious as to which ones are imitations and if they are good investments. There are only a certain number of these items left in the world and not all are worth investing your hard earned dollars. Everyone is welcome to see and ask questions, but only serious buyers please. My collection is of very high quality items, every one I own was hand picked and meticulously inspected. I would categorize my inventory to be of higher grade compared to most of the others sold on Ebay. I have sold a number on ebay and even more privately for very high amounts so bid with confidence. People with Zero Feedback please contact me before!

The amount of craftsmanship that went into a complete set is incredible, it took many skilled craftsmen sometimes thousands of hours to complete. An armor would often take longer than one entire year to complete. Each component was created and finished with quality materials, an armor would reflect the wealth of a Samurai, similar to how we would display our wealth today, instead we buy cars, jewelry, etc.

An indication that this is a Matching set is the character    found throughout painted in red. It seems to be original to when the armor was made.

The Dou (chest armor) is in pristine condition with the original lacquer close to perfect condition with the obvious effects of age, the leather lining on the interior is in great condition. Under the Lacquer is iron layers of metal, its heavy and takes a little effort to lift. All the bindings are original and holding together, please refer to the pictures to get a better idea. You can see the marking on the interior.

The Kabuto (helmet) is in great condition, it is what we call Zunari-Kabuto style where plates of metal are placed together and joined. It is entirely of Solid Iron with a nice original lacquer work. The inner lining is all there, often times the material would disintegrate or get eaten by moths over the centuries, but it has survived. The Marking can be found below the left ear.  On the Kusazuri (lower skirt panels attached to Chest armor) there are markings are found on each section, also you'll note 2 elegant custom pockets on the interior of the two front sections.

The Menpo (face guard) is beautiful, it has its original red lacquer on the interior and dark aged lacquer on the exterior. Also found on the chin is the matching marking in red paint

The Maedate (Helmet forecrest) in has a beautiful gold lacquered Dragon made of wood, very well carved. It has a nice aged patina.

The Kote ( sleeves) are in great condition. The chain links are well in tact with age appropriate oxidation. The original cloth remains under which is a mix of many materials, you can still see the decorative and elegant pattern in the outer material, along with the rugged canvas underneath. These items were visually appealing but were designed for real fighting. What is also nice is that the cloth and silk materials are all complete matching to the set which can be seen in the pictures. At the top of each Kote we can see the markings .

The Hai-date (skirt) is also in pristine condition, excellent condition scales covered in lacquer. This allowed the Samurai to save on some weight which would make him more agile and last longer in battle but without compromising his protection. One slash to his leg and puncturing a major artery means he would be dead in moments. The condition of the materials is well above what I've seen around.

The Sode (shoulder armor) is in excellent condition and it also has marked on each one.

The Sune-date (shin armor) is in excellent condition. They are solid pieces of iron sheets, when put up to the light you can see the hammering work on it which helps put into perspective how much time went into making one piece. Imagine each slip hammered out hundreds or even thousands of time to make it flat and shaped. The cloth materials are holding up well

The Gusoku-Bitsu (armor box) is in great condition with original wood and iron fittings, Its a nice indication to the level of craftsmanship on the most basic of pieces, also has the original metal locking mechanism.

All together this is a very Special Piece of history that you can own you would be proud to display, (if nobody else in the household stops you). The value of an antique like this can only increase, the rarity of a complete and original armor is much higher compared to other Samurai collectables. Just the odds of an original set surviving is much much lower.

If you would like any more pictures or info don't be shy to inquire, I posted more than 60 pictures so you can get the full idea of what this armor really is.   If you have any other questions I will be glad to answer with my limited knowledge. Thanks for watching :)
