About this charity:
Tickets For Troops, set up in 2009, provides free tickets to the men and women of Her Majesty's Armed Forces for sporting, music and theatrical performances as a mark of the countries appreciation for the sacrifices that they make on our behalf. To date we have distributed over 290,000 tickets and 110,000 troops have signed up to the scheme.

ACTRESS Joanna Lumley who helped Gurkha soldiers in their fight to settle in the UK has ‘donated’ her Olympic Torch tracksuit to help raise funds for the charity Tickets For Troops. Joanna, who starred in a special Olympic episode of Absolutely Fabulous with Jennifer Saunders became a supporter of the Tickets For Troops (www.ticketfortroops.org.uk) charity when she hosted a special fund-raising event at London’s Royal Opera House last year. Torchbearer 098 Joanna Lumley carried the Olympic Flame on the Torch Relay leg between Lambeth and Kensington and Chelsea. She said: “I felt a sense of pride and privilege to be carrying the Olympic Torch and I think if my tracksuit raises some money for a wonderful charity like Tickets For Troops then it is only fitting that I can recognise their dedication and work in such a simple way.” |
