This took me back to the first time I heard John Martyn on the Old Grey Whistle test in the 70's, after which as soon as funds allowed purchased Solid Air. I like the BBC recordings as they convey the dynamics of the studios, which makes the songs more intimate and natural compared to the more produced album releases. John was a brilliant songsmith and a very skilled craftsman; these combined make this collection a joy to listen to. A must have for anyone with folksy leanings; buy it and enjoy.
No two ways about it-this is A Superb addition to the corpus of Live John Martyn Recordings-one of the very best. The recording quality is excellent-on ALL tracks! The musicianship is sparkling, the vocals showing The Late Great John at his very best-and the versions of the Message and Certain Surprise/Couldnt love you more will haunt forever with their brilliance. A fantastic album-ten out of ten.
I really like this cd. It was perhaps John Martyns best period. This is one for a quiet evening in or a relaxing passenger on a long car journey. I thnk you will enjoy this.
